cold remedies....

Let us yet again rehash the topic of snot.

So, ds has croup, and of course his lovely germs have made themselves comfy and at home in my body. I'm not croup-y yet, just nasal congestion and raw, sore throat so far.

I'm totally paranoid, 'cause I had supply issues...MASSIVE ONES...when ds was born, and I know it was (partly) because of all the sudafed I took towards the end of the pregnancy due to that annoying 3rd trimester stuffiness some women just get.

This time around, by God, I am DETERMINED to not take that crap, not even a single dose. My boobs are happily leaking all over the place, so I'm optimistic that this time (please Lord) supply won't be an issue.

So I'm using my neti pot, the vaporizer with menthol stuff in the cup added, those little shower soothers thingies, breathe right strips, shoving vicks vapo-rub into my nostrils, and am pushing fluids.

Can anyone think of ANYTHING else I can do that will help this crap, but that is pregnancy safe and decongestant-free?

I think you're doing it all Mama!! How about Emergen-C (and skip prenatal vitamins if you're taking them)? It seemed to have helped me.

Cayenne tea or gargle. 1/4 tsp of cayenne in hot water.. I like the tea version, add some honey and a squirt of lemon juice. If you do the gargle no need to bother with the honey.

If you can catch a cold at the beginning it really really helps to knock it out before it sets in. I had a horrible cold a week back and it was the only thing that helped. Then again, I dont take OTC meds... but it was more helpful then the vapor rub, nettipot and steaming myself in the shower.

Good luck!

Emergen-C!

Emergen-C is wonderful!

For the sore throat....The best remedy I have ever used is yogurt. If you take 2 Tbs of yogurt every 2 hours and when ever you get up in the night it coats your throat and those millions of good bacteria do wonders. It might take a few days but you should notice a difference after the first day! Continue the process for a few days!

Hope that helps!
