Real women have curves

Has anyone seen this movie? I just rented it on tape last week. I loved the female charachter Anna. I thought her self-confidence in her body and mind was so refreshing. She is a strong female, who still being young had alot to learn about life and how hard it is for some. I highly reccommend this movie, for once a movie where a young woman does not think a makeover will make her life better.

I just saw it this week & we really liked it! DH is into Indie films & had heard good things about it. It is nice to see an uplifting movie when so many are tear jerkers or just plain disturbing.

I loved this one. It was nice to see someone closer to my size than most leading ladies.

i thought it was very stereotypical. the domineering latina mother, they work in a sewing factory, the wise old grandfather.. i'm sorry, but latin families are not like that.at least not the ones i know

Funny...I am a latina and I did not find it stereotypical. In fact, I found a lot of what I grew up with in the movie. And having grown up in Southern California, I know a lot of others too.

LOVED IT

since you all are discussing stereotypes & the way the mother/daughter relationship was portrayed, let me ask a question:
It seemed really odd to me that the Mom was so set on the daughter not improving herself beyond what the Mom's experience had been. Wanting her to go to work, get married & all that. It struck me as odd, because often immigrant families are portrayed as wanting the children to "move up" in education & economic status. So, I found myself wondering if this was just this particular Mom's way of being protective & being jealous~ or if it was a hispanic thing? Isn't there some tradition of the youngest daughter staying unmarried to care for the mama? Where did I get that, "Like Water For Chocolate" or something?
Anyway, not trying to be offensive, just asking a question...
