ds is now 8 days old, and has been nursing well. but, she often falls asleep after a few minutes- only to wake and still be hungry. so i end up nursing for long periods of time, and i'm wondering how long my toddler is going to put up with is!

i'm trying to "switch feed," but i'm not always able to wake her during the switch.

i thought i'd ask you guys first before visiting the breastfeeding group, so if you have any advice, bring it on!

when milo falls asleep but is still latched on, i pull him off the latch and wait a few seconds. sometimes he'll wake up enough to start rooting again, in which case i put him back on the nipple.

if he doesn't wake up enough, i burp him. usually this will wake him up just enough to switch him to the other boob.

if the burping process doesn't wake him up, then i do a little dance called: "NAPTIME FOR MILO AND MAMA!!" and we get in bed.

DS was a *very* sleepy marathon nurser, and I used to use a damp washcloth to gently wake him when he was a tiny babe. It was the only way I could get him to eat any decent amount (and certainly the only way that he would get any hindmilk). Fortunately, he moved beyond that phase pretty soon.

Good luck, mama!

Yeah- I have started using the Maya ALL DAY LONG because if i put her down she wakes up right away to nurse and she will nurse for hours and hours- I could just keep switching sides every 5 or ten minutes and she would NEVER stop- I just know it.

I know it's normal, and this stage passes, and one day maybe a month or a year from now, maybe two, we won't even remember this baby phase but really, today, I want to enjoy my new skinny body and NOT be attached for just a few hours. In fact, I want to exercise. I KNOW that feeling will pass. Gotta love peanut butter fudge. Maybe I shouldn't have eaten 2 pounds of it for breakfast. and/or lunch. What's it called when you munch nonstop from 9am-OMG is it really after noon???
