DVD TV series

Hi,
We just decided to cancel our cable so I am looking for some of the better series on DVD. Something from Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel or History channel. What are your dc's favorite series? I don't know the name of any of the educational series as I never really watched TV. I posted in Learning at Home forum b/c we are a homeschooling family and I'd like to know opinions of other homeschooling families!

Thanks!

We liked Timeblazers and Serious (both Discovery Kids), and for slightly older children - History Rocks! (History Channel) It's events from one decade set to music of that era - Mt. St. Helen story with Should I Stay Or Should I Go, for example. Sort of a pop up video type of history. They only have 3 decades right now, but look to be adding more.

We didn't do any extensive TV before this Fall when my 7 year old got a terrible hair tangle that has taken many days/week/months to work out, picking slowing. We don't have cable either. We've enjoyed Nova and Wired Science on PBS and Avatar: The Last Airbender (a fantasy show) on dvd the best. We also really liked History Detectives on PBS and renting Jeff Corwin and Mythbusters.

NOVA:

Japan's Secret Garden (David Attenborough)
Garden Of Eden (on the Seychelle Islands)
The Unknown World (microscopic life)
Treasures Of the Great Barrier Reef
Miracle Of Life (in the womb)

IMAX:

The Great Barrier Reef
The Living Sea
Coral Reef Adventure
Galapagos
Blue Planet (different from the David Attenborough series above)
Origins Of Life

anything David Attenborough is great, my dh just loves those series, he's like a little kid again.

i am very fond of the PBS house series, Manor House, 1900 House, Frontier House, Colonial House, 1940s House, etc. there is a great British program too called Tales from the Green Valley, it's only available in Britain though. these are great for opening up discussions about history. i love living history so these are particular favourites.

the BBC has some great educational programs if you can find them as well.
