sick! just wasted...

I had bought a thing of ground hamburger meat from Cosco for around $15 on payday. With DH coming home after a sea cruise yesterday and getting the house in order, I didn't get a chance to cook the last one. I bought 2 things of them. I made a big crock pot of potato soup for DH for when he got home. So I go to cook the last thing of meat and it smells bad!! NO!! I just wasted $15! I hate it when that happens! Just had to vent!

Throwing out food always makes me really upset. How old was it. If it was less then 4 days or so, I would take it back to Costco.

Sometimes, after a very stressful week, I make DH clean out the fridge because I can't bare to see what was wasted!

I hear ya, mama!!

I usually buy meat from a local butcher, and it's wonderful and so fresh and never gone bad on me. However, the other week I was in Kroger and they had these value packs of chicken breasts one sales so I picked on up because it seemed like such a good deal and not 3 days later I went to use the last piece and BAM! Was that thing ever funky. That always happens to meats I buy at grocery stores. Ew. As tempting as some sales may be, I'll pass.

Oh, man! What a bummer.

I am the worst about wasting food but I'm getting better! - I buy the big things of ground beef at Costco, too, and as soon as I get it home, I split it into 6 1#-bags and put them straight in the freezer. Most of my recipes call for 1# portions, so I just thaw out however much I need.

If I buy more meat than I think I'll be able to use in a day or two, I stick it in the freezer instead of the fridge. This usually means re-wrapping the meat into smaller packages before freezing, but it minimizes waste and allows me to make good "freezer meals" when money is really tight.

Take it back if it hasn't expired yet.

I'm sorry. I hate wasting food too.

On my best days, this is what I do. I HATE it when I put it off and it gets old. I hate wasting food so much. Today I threw away 2 heads of lettuce....to make room for the head I just bought because I'm SURE I'll use this one!

That's too bad. Maybe you can bring it back as others suggested.

We used to waste soooo much food. I mean garbage bags full! Now we use just about everything! It feels so much better.

I hate it when I do that.

I have done the same thing before. It makes me so mad at myself. I have been really trying lately to plan out meals every week that use up what I have. I've done pretty well the past couple of weeks, so I hope I can keep it up!
