CLO/BO for an Infant

I'm very new at this so I really appreciate any help!

DS is 6 months old, EBF and although he shows interest in food, the other signs of food readiness just aren't there (sitting up, teeth, etc.). But I'm in no hurry to feed him solid food--he's got time

I was reading the WAP site last night and saw the recommendation to give 1/4 teaspoon of CLO to babies. I am considering ordering the Blue Ice CLO/BO supplement for myself and was thinking of getting some for him too. I need the capsules for me for now because I have a high ick factor, but I'd like to get him started on the liquid so he'll just be used to it.

I guess I'm just having trouble with the dosage, it's half of an adult dose--is that right? I'm figuring this based on the WAP recommendation for 10,000 of vitamin A a day for adult (which is 2 ml. or 2/5 teaspoon). I just don't want to overdose my little guy!

Also, how long does the liquid and the capsules last in the fridge?

TIA!!

I'd probably hold off on supplementing the little guy until he's a bit bigger.

If you do decide to go ahead with starting CLO now, you could use the same capsules you use for yourself, but prick it open and pour some into a spoon or some other container for the baby, or squeese the contents right into his mouth. There's no need to buy a separate bottle for a baby who's only getting tiny amounts.

Thank you! I would rather wait to give him anything at this point. I was just thinking if I needed to order something separate for him, that I'd do it now so I could combine and save on shipping.

I would NEVER give any sort of supplement to a child that wasn't ready to eat real food (i.e., not pureed mush, but like, a crust of bread or a hunk of pear... food the way it is naturally in the world) and that didn't have some kind of serious medical issue (such as anemia). The thinking that an exclusively breastfed baby needs "extra" anything is really whacked. (lol... sorry... can't think of a better way to put it )

I would, however, make sure YOU are taking your CLO and eating a well-balanced diet rich in healthy fats. HTH.

If you really want to supp. the babe, the WAPF suggests 5000 IU vit A and 500u vit D for kids 3m-12y per day. If you're ordering Dr Ron's CLO/BO combo then that would be 1ml a day for the babe. You would need 20000IU/2000U as a nursing mommy (= 4ml which is less than a tsp). ---- Just to answer your question.

I, however, agree with the others that if the babe is EBF and you are having an adequate intake and nourshing yourself well otherwise, then I'd probably skip the babe supplements and just provide booby-on-demand until your little one is nursing less and eating other foods. JMO

in agreeance (sp?) with those that don't think babies need supplements if they are breastfeeding. My take on it is that if babies were meant to ingest something nature would have provided it for them. And I've never seen a baby grab a cod fish and eat his liver. ! It was the same thing when my MIL told me that newborn babies NEED water in their bottle. Breast milk is not enought according to her. So I told her if that were true, babies throughout history would have crawled to rivers to drink. I think you should uptake your amount of CLO/BO so that you will have adequate levels in your milk. Now if a mother is not willing to eat correctly so that her milk is nutricious, then thats a different story. Then I would give the baby supplements.

I agree -- don't supplement.

Sally Fallon's breastfeeding advice is whacked.
