Our family finds that cabbage gives us crazy gas. you'd think with the fermenting it be better but who knows?

The same thing has happened to me, but it seems to be less and less the more times I eat it.

i can eat cooked cabbage and it dosn't seem to give me gas so i'm wondering what the probioitic effect is doing.

That is what I would think. Fermented veggies can have ALOT of probiotics and often different strains than people are used to consuming. It may be upsetting your tummy now, but in the long run it will pay off! My vote is for the probiotics.

I've been vegetarian all of my life, and just started introducing small amounts of chicken and turkey. Every time I've eaten any, I've gotten a stomach ache that lasted for many hours.
The other night, I ate a delicious homemade chicken pot pie, including my first big solid chunks of chicken. I went home, still feeling fine, and took some homeopathic Nux Vomica 30x before bed. I never got the stomach ache that time. I don't know whether that was what saved me this time, but NV has helped me with all sorts of gassy and belly-pain issues.

I love sauerkraut. It would drive me nuts if it didn't sit well!
Good luck!

IF you're willing to try homeopathy, great! If you have little pain (which I'm assuming since you didn't mention it), just mainly gas and bloating then a more appropriate remedy might be carbo veg 30c.

You never know exactly what people mean when they just say "gas"

That's why homeopathy is so awesome...it TOTALLY addresses the symptoms. You should check out the rubrics for gas! If you rep it it can be very time consuming.

Here's a quick reference I like to use for homeopathics-
on the page for gas & indigestion:

How do you rep it, firefaery?

How do you rep it, firefaery?
Do you mean how do you repertorize in general or for gas specifically?
I thought you meant you sold homeopathics like Avon or something
You know, sales rep? :

What does "repertorize" mean? Research to pick a good remedy to try?

OMG, that's HILARIOUS!

Repertorizing in a pretty lengthy process. Basically you create a chart using rubrics specific to homeopathy. You describe all symptoms, where they are felt, what they are like and what makes them better or worse. Each is assigned a number based on it's importance.

So, for instance someone with gas might look like this:

Head: Face flushed (3)

Digestion: Abdomen-stabbing pain left (2)
Abdomen-bloated (1)
Abdomen-colic, incarcerated (1)

General: feel worse at night (agg.)
worse lying down (agg.)
better in the cool (amel.)

Mind: anxious (1)

Then, using a materia medica you'd match up each symptom with all the remedies that go along with it.

After that you have a chart with remedies on the top and symptoms on the side. You make an "x" each time a remedy fits with a symptom. At the end there will be only one or two remedies that have more "x's" in their columns than the rest. The one with the most wins, and if there's a tie you look more deeply at the top two or three.

That was probably totally confusing, but you get the picture!

Cool!
Do you study it, or do you just have the right books?
Are the heavy-duty books on the subject available to regular folks?

Thanks for explaining...

Sorry for the thread detour everyone.

Yes, I'm in school now-but I've been using it for over 10 years which certainly helps things. I've been seeing classical homeopaths for a decade so you sort of pick things up. I've also worked with one.

Books are certainly available to regular folks-most of the time though they're just VERY expensive. There are some you can get that won't break the bank though. I remember for my first semester I spent over $1000 on homeopathy books alone. That almost killed me. There were several over $150 EACH. That was tough!

For acute at home care Everybody's Guide to Homeopathic Medicine by Ullman and Cummings is a great start and teaches you a bit about repertorizing. IT doesn't get into constitutional stuff. It's really meant for parents or other laypeople learning about homeopathy. It's a great book though. Helps with treating colds, flus, digestive stuff-things like that.

You can get a Materia Medica with Repertory for around $16 on Amazon strangely enough! Just do a search. Boericke is a very common one and it is the MM off which most books are based. Great to have if you have *some* knowledge first. The language of the MM is an art in of itself.

This is a great resource for books if you're looking for the intense stuff: http://www.minimum.com/
