Does coconut oil make your mouth tingle?

When I cook with it lately, like potatoes and eggs, stir fry's etc, the first several bites cause a very pronounced tingling in my mouth. It's not unpleasant.

DD notices it too. DH doesn't. Other dd's don't have the vocabulary to mention it.

WHat's going on?

I never noticed any "tingling" from coconut oil.

My guess is that it's an allergy reaction of some sort. My friend gets the same thing eating nutritional yeast (well she doesn't eat it anymore).

I get (got) that sensation eating plums, so I figured I'd better stop. That'd be a bummer if it really is an allergy-type of thing!

No, I haven't experienced that.

Thankyou for all the info. I just found a great source for grass fed suet. I'm thinking I'll feed it raw to the dog for sure, and will be looking more into tallow making....thanks!

sounds like a mild allergic/food sensitivity response. I get this from cantalope and avocados. but i still eat them!

My first thought is that it could be rancid--have you noticed this with more than one batch?

woops I bumped the wrong thread!

But eyah, I was afraid of allergy......but strangly it only happens when I cook with it, not when I melt it in a drink or eat it cold.....
