Microfiber against baby's skin

I've read over and over how one should never allow microfiber to touch your baby's skin directly because it will be too drying. Does anyone know from what source this recommendation comes? Is it really that critical? If so, how thick a barrier does there need to be between baby and the microfiber? Would a flushable liner be too thin? Has anyone tried allowing the microfiber against their baby's skin? Just wondering...

All snowed in here today and going a little stir crazy!

When I handle the mf towels I have, my hands feel very dry afterwards. I would imagine rubbing against a baby's butt for a few hours would be very drying. I used to trifold them with a cotton hankerchief and lay in a cover, and did not experience any drying problems. The barrier doesn't have to be thick, just make sure no part of the towel is peeking out and rubbing against skin. If you have some old flannel receiving blankets, you could make a pocket out of them (just fold and sew on the side, and leave an opening) and stuff them with the mf towel, and lay in a cover. Easy peasy and soft.

One time I was stuffing quite a few pocket diapers, and by the time I got done, my hands were PEELING because they were so dry. I would NOT recommend using it directly against the skin, better safe than sorry, especially when it comes to your babies' skin, kwim?

I've found that the mf inserts for the bgs are a bit softer and don't dry my hands as much as the towels you buy in Sam's and stuff.

my bgs have suedecloth. The microfiber never touched the baby's skin. But I have to touch it to stuff it.
