What scares you more? - Page 4

I just wanted to thank you, DP, for sharing your experiences.

I can appreciate your choices given your own personal context.

We are all just trying to guess what is best, aren't we? There are no guarantees.

Croup is a common respiratory problem in young children. Its main symptom is a harsh, barking cough. Croup causes swelling and narrowing in the voice box, windpipe, and breathing tubes that lead to the lungs. This can make it harder for your child to breathe.

An attack of croup can be scary, but it is rarely serious. Children usually get better in several days with rest and care at home.

What causes croup?
Croup usually occurs a few days after the start of a cold and is usually caused by the same viruses that cause the common cold. As children grow older and their lungs and windpipes mature, they are less likely to get croup."

Croup is NOT a disease. It's a symptom of another illness, usually the common cold.

This is my understanding of croup as well. My middle child has had it a hand full of times, it sounds awful but we were able to treat it (w/o medication) at home. I know it can be severe but that is the exception not the rule (from everthing I've read about it).

Me either and it makes me sad so many of your family and friends have been through so much with regards to illnesses, DP.

I am not really scared of either, but I can guarantee that I won't have to worry about one of the two options. For my family, the risks of vaccination truly outweigh the benefits. If there ever came a time when I would have to reconsider my stance, I would reevaluate and make the best decision possible.
