Doll Clothes for Waldorf Dolls(Dancing Rain Dolls)

I ordered doll making kits from Dancing Rain Dolls. I got the Pocket Pal, 12" Friendship Doll & 16" Friendship Doll. 2 are at my Mom's getting their caps made, so I just have the Pocket Pal home, hair done(looks like a lion, but oh well!!). I need to start making clothes(these are Christmas presents).

The patterns that came with the kits do include patterns and somewhat of instructions. I'm curious if anyone has made any of the clothes? What did you think? Any other "free" clothing patterns? I would like to get one outfit per doll made before Christmas and make them more in the future. I guess my biggest concern with the DRD's patterns, is some things are mislabled(ex. on the pocket pal, the pattern for the overalls says "body"....and it's not the body!). Also the directions to actually make the doll had quite a few errors(missing words, missing steps to the directions, etc.). I don't want to waste my time if the clothes aren't even going to work.

Thanks, Sara

We happen to own a ton of books on sewing doll clothes as well as many, many doll clothes patterns so I never have had to use a free pattern, but there seem to be free patterns online. I'm wondering if you found a sewing pattern for baby clothes online and then printed it and then sized it down using a copy machine if that would work. You may even be able to size it down with your computer or printer. I found this pattern for a preemie gown and cap. It might only need a teeny bit of size adjusting.

i made the nightgown frmo the DRD 16" friendship doll pattern. the hardest part for me was realizing that there is no seam allowence - so you can't jsut trace and cut from the patterns given

This is what I am struggling with too. I find it really annoying.

To the OP, please email Amy about any pattern problems so that she may change them. I really think that she is trying to provide a quality product. It is difficult to proof your own pattern. Plus fixing errors helps the rest of us too!

I got a preemie simplicity pattern that fit my 14" DRD doll with a few minor adjustments.

Hi Guys,
I've had a chance to finally breathe and started to see how everyone was doing. When using DRD patterns, trace around the patterns onto the fabric. This is your stitching line and really easy to follow along the traced line for beginner sewers.

I do not add the seam allowances. WHY? Because everyone is comfortable with different seam allowances. I would suggest using a 1/4 but for some older machines or beginning sewers that is really hard to do.

I will be spending some time working on my patterns again and if you have any other imput or suggestions please feel free to pm me or drop me an email.

The Maricristin Sealy book has a lot of great clothing patterns, and they are pretty simple. I have made a few of them.

Also, I don't know about your 16" DRD, but my Magic Cabin 16" dolls can wear American Girl doll clothes. I think that is because these dolls are shorter but chubby for their height. Simplicity makes a lot of patterns for that size doll.
