what's wrong with my yogurt?

So, Im not completely new to yogurt making but I tried the crockpot method that some of you all suggested on these boards for the first time last night. thing is, when I checked it this am it was still runny, although it tasted like yogurt, so i figured it was too soon (it had only been 10 hours) so i left it longer. when i checked it again at 15 hours it was seriously seperated throughout the whole jar. like curd/whey kind of. I used raw whole milk and left over nonfat organic plain "Nancys". what did i make? it still tastes good but doesn't look it and would be harder to use like thick yogurt.

When I let my yogurt sit in the heat too long, it turns to curds and whey, kinda. But if I stir it, it's smooth and normal. Does it stir nicely or does it stay chunky?

Thanks for replying so quickly Ammaarah,
It does stir nicely but stays extra runny- maybe thats just the raw milk?

From what I know yogurt doesn't get really firm with raw milk. Something about the proteins. If you were to boil your milk first, you'd get it quite firm.

It's still good to eat just isn't that spoonable thick.

That's what I just read on another thread, that raw milk yogurt doesn't firm up. Serena, do you boil your milk if you make cooked yogurt? I only heat mine to 180.

I don't. I don't have raw milk to start with so if I did it wouldn't exactly be a issue, ykow? I just mix milk straight from the fridge with starter straight from the fridge in a mason jar and slap into a yogurt maker knowing that it won't be too thick.

Honestly, I haven't made yogurt in a long time now that I have kefir grains...
