Hypnobabies?

I've recently seen some posts about Hypnobabies. Anyone have any experience with this - with the home CDs set? What feedback do you have about it? In what ways - if any - did you find it useful? Is it worth the $$$$?

We are doing a hospital birthing center birth, with DH as my primary labor support, working with a great group of all female obs/mw and we will get whoever is on call, whether ob or mw.

Thanks!

Well I haven't birthed with it yet but I am really enjoying the program. I defiately feel like it will be helpful for this birth. I do think it's worth the money even just for what I've gotten from it so far. I have been having pretty extreme stress this pregnancy (sister has been severly depressed/suicidal for months and my family relies very heavily on me to care for her because I have worked in mental health) and the finacial toll it is taking (feeding her, driving her to appts). So anyway, it has really helped me to deal with the stress better than I would have otherwise. I got a used set so I saved some money on it but last I knew (a week or so ago) they were back ordered on those. If you can afford the set I'd go for it. I really feel like it can't hurt. We paid $200 for Bradley classes the first time around so this is a deal after that AND I can use it over and over! Good luck on making a decision and if you are going for it I'd get it ordered and started soon so you have enough time and don't feel rushed.

I have the home CD set.. I'm really enjoying it.
Who knows what effects it will have on the day.. but I know that for 30min every day I am so relaxed I fall asleep. Or go into hypnotic "amnesia" as the hypnobirthers say.
I don't think I will have a totally pain-free birth, as some apparently do, but if it helps me conquer some fear, and I can get a good level of relaxation during labor it will be worth every penny. Plus you can resell the sets!
There's a yahoo group if you want to talk to more people about it/read birth stories etc.
Oh, and the CDs include some nice affirmations which I listen to on the bus.. positive thoughts can't hurt!

It was worth every penny for me!!! I used it with DD and will use it again this time (speaking of which, I need to get on that!). My labor was fantastic. I know it was my second time around which may have made some difference, but in all honesty my first wasn't THAT bad. But with hypnobabies, wow, I was really able to relax and let my body work. I didn't practice enough to achieve anesthesia, but I was able to really, really relax and work WITH my body instead of against it. I would say that time around I only had about an hour and a half of "hard" labor, vs struggling for a good 7 hours or so of it the first time. The first time I just didn't quite know how to let go and handle the discomfort...with hypnobabies it was just so much easier, I knew exactly what to do, and it was almost enjoyable. Sure transition still sucked, but you know what? It lasted 10 minutes.

mine is in the mail!

i've heard such awesome things about it that i was trying to get one on ebay but the prices were almost exactly the same as buying directly from the company. and, the company will replace any of your cd's that don't work for free.

so, i just called and ordered it! if it doesn't work (which i've heard is only if you don't put the time into it) at least i can send it back to them and they can pass it on as a used kit to a new mama. plus, they'll pay you for your used kit!

We started our homestudy on Mon. I have done the CD's tues, wed, thurs and today. However, the first 2 days, I was interrupted before the script was over, and didn't get to finish. Then on Thurs, I thought I did the right one, but it turns out that I had track 2 of disc 2 instead of disc 1 in. Oh well.

I doubt that I should be feeling super different after just one week, and such a haphazard week, at that. But I have realized that I am already better at changing my inner voice, and every time I feel a thought of fear coming up, I immediately rephrase myself. I do still feel a lot of fear thoughts coming up (no more than before the program started), but I do think that I am rephrasing them more quickly, and embracing more positive thoughts.

I also don't necessarily expect or even truly need a completely pain-free birth, but I do want to be less fearful and tense than I was last time, and I want to be more joyful and exhilirated during and afterwards.

I am looking forward to doing more of the practice and to seeing what comes of it all.

I don't post much here.. but anyways, I'm doing it. I'm on week three and I'm loving it. I have had so much more peace and confidence since starting it and now that I finally got to the center switch part I can actually really feel it work by using it with small things now like pelvic pain or uncomfortable Braxton Hicks. My husband is semi on board but getting closer and closer to becoming a believer (hee he hee). I soooo recommend becoming a member of hte yahoo group. I feel it has totally supplemented not being in a class. And also you may not want to get the ebay ones b/c many of them are bootleged and not totally there, and you don't want to do the entire thing and then realize the pushing baby out CD isn't really right!

I'm using it for the first time for our second birth and although it can be tough to find the time to use it, life with a toddler and the holidays and all... it's AWESOME! I look so forward to my daily CD. I really think it's going to be an amazing tool for me and I can't wait to have a more comfortable and easy birth this time around!
