Suggestion on bottles?

Like I've said previous posts I am planning to nurse, but will eventually have to return to work. Looking for suggestions on which bottles are best for breastfed babies. With my daughter, who I didn't nurse, I used the Playtex system of liners and the brownish colored nipples. I've looked at the Adiri Natural Nursers that are supposedly the most like a breast but don't know if they are worth the money. Help!!! Which bottles/nipples are best for a breastfed baby once I have to return to work after 3 months?

I used Dr. Brown's bottles with bdd.

I have decided to use glass bottles this time due to BPA in plastics. Or they have plastic bottles at Whole foods with out the BPA.

The Adiri bottles are free of all the nasty stuff too. I'll have to check out the bottles at whole foods next time I'm up there-closest one is a little over an hour away. Thought about the Dr Brown's but didn't know anyone who has used them. Thanks!

the medella bottles are bpa-free too i think...

The people who make the Soothie pacifiers (which are supposed to be the best for breastfed babies) now make bottles. I'm going to pick up a couple of those to try out.

BUT I don't really have room to talk - both of my kids flat out refused pacifiers, and only one took bottles, and that was only for a couple of weeks. (I have a few of practically EVERY brand of bottle. I wanted desperately for my kids to give my boobs a break once a day!)

my sister also use these, they help with children who have acid reflux or colic.

my kids took the avent bottles, when they did; Bella was fingerfed for a while. Such a PITA. . .

i posted about this in breastfeeding section b/c i will work as a midwife's assistant and want to pump. i want to do glass bottles to avoid the PBA's so i have looked at Born Free, mainly. their plastic ones are also PBA free. we're trying to rid our house of plastic more and more so introducing plastic bottles may not work for us.

I haven't really heard good reviews about the adiri. I am going to stick with something BPA free which would be either the Playtex Nursers w/ liners, the Born Free bottles or the glass bottles. I don't really like the liners and the born free are expensive so I am probably going to get the glass ones.

The breastfed baby I babysit for uses the Playtex Nurser system and she does really well.

I will be returning to work too (DH is a SAHD) and will be using the same bottles that I have from DS-- Avent.

They are not PBA or whatever free. What I like, though, is that I can pump directly into them (I bought adapters for my Ameda so that the bottles fit) and then store them with a lid. Then you just remove the inner portion of the lid, insert the nipple, and you're ready to go. I wanted to make sure that I was not constantly transferring the milk (bottle to bag to bottle, etc) because that could cause the milk to lose some of its fats and other components.

All that being said, I know some babies are picky and you may have to try several bottles (or nipples) until you find one that works.

My son also took a bottle of breastmilk until 14 months, and I would not have wanted him to have glass bottles because he throws everything. Which is unfortunate, because I think they would probably be great.

Even when I was a little tiny kid and baby bottles were as often glass as plastic, those bottles were darn near indestructable. They can take an awful lot of abuse.

I remember reading, though, that breastmilk shouldn't be stored in glass because some of the compounds that make it so fabulous are ruined-- they stick to the glass and don't get to the baby. I think it was in The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding?

I plan to try the Medela bottles first, since they're affordable and plastic (I don't want to carry glass around if I'm pumping on the go). We'll see from there. You might get one of the fancy bottles and see if it's worth it, depending on your kiddo.

I have used and really liked Dr Brown's, I hope they come out with a BPA free bottle because they'd be my first choice.

I would get a few and see which works best. I was supplementing for a while with Michael and used the Avent bottles at first but his latch was awful with them. They we tried a platex nurser but that was so-so and I didn't like the whole disposable aspect. Last we tried the nuck nipples on the evenflo/gerber bottles and it worked for the combo feeding. The plus side was I was using a lactina at the time and it was so nice to be able to pump into the bottles directly since they fit.

I can't for the life of me remember where I read it-- what I *do* remember is that I gave those books away ages ago. It's going to drive me bonkers, though.

Does anyone know if there is a way to tell if BPA is in bottles that I already have? I certainly don't want to purchase new ones with BPA, but if some of the ones that I have from the first time around are still good, I will use them.

Is it just brands to look for, or is there a recycling symbol that will tell me that information?

ETA: I just found this link in a search, but am still looking for more information:

Best bottle for breastfeeding

I used the Adiri Natural Nurser.

http://www.babygreenpea.com

They are free of BPA and are the most unique bottle I have come across. There was no nipple confusion and it mimics the breastfeeding experience more than any other bottle I know of.

I breastfed all 3 of my kids thus far and I guess they were all a bunch of breastfed snobs. None of them would take a bottle. When I would go to school or work they would go on hunger strike. Our DD, and DS1 would take some milk from a cup or syringe. I also tried the Medela Haberman feeder which is supposed to simulate breastfeeding, no luck! I also introduced a bottle early on, they just did not like it! Good luck!
