ds (5) asked me that this morning. When I posed the same question to him, he shocked me. I was certain he'd say Mars Mission (the leggo set), but instead he said "For you to love me forever" :

My 7 yo DD did something similar. In her class at school they wrote letters to Santa. She brought hers home yesterday and her letter consisted of several questions for Santa: how do you fit down the chimney? how heavy is your sleigh? Do you like rootbeer, etc. Then the last sentence was "all I want for Christmas is my family." I immediately teared up as I am now just writing this again.

How in the world did I ever get so damned lucky??

I asked DS at Thanksgiving what he was thankful for and he told me "that we have everything we need." I thought I would cry a river....

Awww your kids are so sweet!

My 8 year old made up a Christmas list that was a mile long, but when I looked closely I realized that he had included all the things and people he loved and then checked them off. So that it said bukbed (bunkbed) check, Nana check, Little Brother (no check here as he's an only child), remote control robot (check).

I thought that was very sweet, and was glad to see that he was able to count his many blessings at this time of the year.

Similar story: This year when DS turned 7, I missed his birthday due to work. (I'd been working out-of-province for 4 months by then and had only seen him twice during that time. ) I asked him over the phone what he wanted for his birthday, and he said "A hug and a kiss."
