I am 31 weeks along and have been talking to Charlie (25 months) about the new baby coming, our doula Tiffany and our midwife Elsa. I want him to be comfortable with everyone and be familar with what is going to go on. So he said the cutest things yesterday

Me: Do you remember who Tiffany is?

C: doula help mommy have baby

Me: yes! Who is Elsa?

C: wife. catch baby.

Me; yes elsa will catch the baby!

C: NO NO NO Charlie catch baby!

Me: Oh I think the midwife will catch the baby, you can rub mommy's back and keep my company.

C: No Charlie catch baby! Mommy in tub Charlie catch baby.

So sweet. I think it is pregnancy hormones but I thougtht it was so sweet!

We weren't planning to have him around during labor and delivery, but if things go well and I am able to stay calm enough he can be there.

Just wanted to share!

Absolutely adorable! I'm wondering the same thing about whether the pregnancy hormones are making my (adult and teenaged) kids seem a lot cuter than the rest of the world perceives them as being.

Charlie isn't that much younger than Jeanita was when Christopher was born, and she was totally the world's best doula; exy was fidgety and annoying and underfoot, but dd understood when I did and didn't want to be touched and was just plain supportive and there and unobtrusive and "just right" in ways that adults never have been for me.

IIRC, she was mostly running on instinct, although I did take her to midwives appointments with me and read her books about having a new sibling and talk about birth and babies. She may or may not have been able to catch Chris if the midwife hadn't gotten there in time.

This time around, she will be a few weeks shy of nineteen and I'm UCing. More than likely, she will be my only attendant. She hasn't changed significantly since she was Charlie's age, so I am anticipating a fabulous birth

DS is only 19 mo and still doesn't quite get it. He like to look at my tummy and pat it and say "baby" but then he'll pull his shirt up and say baby and DH's shirt up and say baby....so now he thinks belly is baby Ahh well he'll figure it out once this one gets here lol

Aww that is so cute!
I was visiting my niece last week and told her I have a baby in my belly and she was so desperate to see the baby. Tugging on my shirt and demanding the baby play. I had to explain to her that she can see the baby when there are flowers outside. But she was so cute!

I am so glad to hear this... Now.. I think C will be a good doula.. I think he is going to be great. It is funny how he just *knows* stuff about babies. I was so planning on having him no where near me.. but now I really think he will be a big part of this birth. Glad to hear that your DD will be with you! I can't wait to hear the story!

lincap- i have a 25 month old, too! she is so precious about this babe (who we call buxton). and, yeah, she too wants to catch the babe or at least "help him out of mama's gina." she loves to listen on the fetascope and place it on my belly "all by muh self". it melts me when she kisses my belly or says, "i love buxie!"

we should chat more about how to transition to two and that we have toddlers around the same age.
