Supplements & Hypermesis

I am really hoping that some of the wise women on here can help me sort through some ideas and supplements I have regarding hypermesis. Out of my last 4 clients 2 have had hypermesis - unusual odds but it stirred something up in me again.

This is the most condensed article I have found on vits to treat hypermesis: http://helpher.org/mothers/treatment...e/vitamins.php

I have found endless theories as to why researchers and doctors believe women struggle with this, but something I have seen over and over is previous issues with IBS, Gall Bladder removal/stones/attacks, or GERD. When I was pregnant with DS2 my nutritionist suggested that I support my liver during pregnancy but I wasn't confident in his knowledge about pregnancy.

So based on the article, and many others, I have put vitamins together but I would love some input:

Liver Plus C (can scroll over categories to see nutritional info)

Super B (Take in morning)

Twin Lab B-6 - 100 mg taken at night

Cod Liver Oil

Vitamin C

I know this is a long post, but I would really like to know if it is a safe combination for pregnancy and to treat hypermesis.

MANY, MANY THANKS!

Anyone?

The one I am most curious about is the Liver supplements. I know I posted a ton - thanks for any input you may have!

I don't see anything in them that wouldn't be safe - but if I was pregnant they would definately make me throw up. I tell my clients to stop their vitamins when are having excessive nausea - they are often the cause of N & V. I recommend liquid vitamins in very small doses for women with extended hyperemesis.
Liquids are better absorbed and there are some good seaweed based supplements on the market.

There is a norwegian brand of fish oil that doesn't taste like anything except mild lemon... i forget the name... it might actually be "norweigan" anyway, i took it for something else and i was nauseous alot during pregnancy and it did not effect me.

I think you might mean the brand Nordic Natural ?
That is a great brand of fish oil that I often recommend to pregnant women.
They make one type in particular for pregnancy...

I would go for nordic natural or another type of omega oil cod liver oil really has a taste--

When I lived in the NW Lendon Smith would send RX for injectable complete B vitamins made by Rugby-- or for some IVs -- worked really well
I used injectable Bs with #3 and did not have a day of morning sickness- which was a far cry from throwing up throughout my pregnancy including the day of the birth which is what I had with my first and #2 was better but still a solid 4 months and nausea thoughout

something else to look at and rule out is H pylori-- but antibody screen is the way to look for it because the breath test has radioactive componets .... antibody screen is not perfect because it will show positive for 5 years -- if your clients know that they haven't been treated for it and have a positive antibody screen then they have H pylori---

I had it with my first and was medicated, but I'm way more aware this time. I've read that Ginger suppliments do help some and B2.

I can't say enough about daily B12 shots (by mouth won't do it). I have been saved by this and the only caregivers I know who do it are direct entry midwives. I had consulted a perinatalogist this pregnancy and she knew nothing about it.

hmmmm I didn't know about the B12 shots for hypermesis... I had a friend who had hypermesis really bad and right before she gave birth they discovered that she had gullstones. My mom gets B12 shots for Celiac's disease and I wonder if there is some kind of relationship... do your clients know if they have either?

Yes, Nordic NAtural! I am writing it down so I will know it forever! Thank you
