how "specialist" do you need to go for a progesterone test??

hi there --

i am on round 2 of insemination with known donor and i am pretty sure i conceived last month but it didn't implant. I'm 40 years old and figured that i might should see what my progesterone levels are. i'd seen an ob/gyn a few months back, then her office didn't call me back when i called to say "ok, i'm starting insemination, should we talk further..." and then when i called a few days ago to ask about getting the test done, her nurse called back to refer me to a "reproductive endocrinologist" that specializes in "infertility." :

do i need to go to a fertility clinic just for this baseline test?? it is EXTREMELY unlikely my insurance is going to pay for ANYTHING related to conception, so to be honest, I was hoping the ob/gyn could just write me a lab order and then if worst comes to worst i just have to pay for lab out of pocket.

i'm in a small city (providence, RI) so not sure how good my options are as far as experienced providers.

I was also thinking of calling up the Maia Midwifery place in California and doing a phone consulation. anyone had experience with them?

thanks.

we are living parallel lives!

i just had a dr. appt. about something else and asked if they could give me the progesterone lab order for the same reasons! and....the very nice RN was actually a little unsure at first. she said it was tricky when they started dealing with "infertility" issues, but was cool and gave it to me anyway. mabye there's some weird insurance thing they have to deal with that we don't know about?

also....we went for our first maia appt. this week and really loved it. i recommend them.

i guess you went to see Maia in person because you are in san francisco? for me it would be a phone session.

I asked AngelaM for advice and she referred me to a local midwife in an ob/gyn practice who was helpful to her.... now i have an appointment for 1/14, which may be my first day of next round of insemination if this time doesnt take...

i felt really blown off by the ob/gyn, she clearly did not want to deal with me, so i'm not going back there!
