How do I cover the buttons with fabric and sew them on? DRD instructions don't tell me how to do it. I'm new at sewing. The joints themselves were so easy, I wish I had gotten the jointed kit instead! Thanks!!

I'd email or call DRD about instructions.
My button jointed dolls' directions were from Joy's (and are now in a box somewhere between here and NJ).
If I remember correctly you can either put the buttons inside the fabric--or over it. I could NOT get my brain around the directions for either way, so I put the buttons between the body and the arm. It was just one of those things I totally couldn't understand---so I can't even begin to explain it---but I wanted to let you know that it can be confusing. And after I put it together with the buttons on the outside, just following line by line, I remember thinking "OH, so I could have just put them under the same way" ...probably not helpful I know.
But like I said, I'd call DRD.
The button jointed dolls are so nice--you'll be happy with it once you get the limbs on.

Thanks for the response. Let me clarify: I'm making the Friendship doll, not the button child, but the directions tell me that I can attach the arms in a button-jointed fashion. I attached them with the string like the directions said (no button involved at all, so after your post I'm thinking this isn't a 'button joint' at all). The button in my directions is purely decorative to cover up the sunken part made by the tight strings holding the arms onto the body. I'll email DRD and see what she says.

From what I'm gathering, the button is purely for decoration. I love the jointed arms, I wish I had gotten the whole jointed kit. I just left mine uncovered for now, it really looks fine, just a dimple in the arm and it's covered with long sleeves right now, anyway. My problems have been more with sewing the clothes!! It was a real labor of love for a beginner! But it came out great, I couldn't sleep last night I was so excited about it!
