Little Miss Grouchy Pants

It is SO bad today, I am ready to cry myself. Mairaed, after sleeping through the night six nights in a row, decided to be up most of the night last night. Then all day today- she has not slept more than 10 minutes at a time. She gets on the boob and falls asleep, and the minute I move her to her basinette or the bed, she wakes up and screams. I feed her, burp her, change her, walk her around, rock her in the glider, make faces at her, show her herself in the mirror, sing to her, put her in her swing, put her in her vibrating seat... everything works for 5 minutes till she loses interest. I am at my wits end. It is how it was when my sister was teething, which obviously Mairaed is not doing yet (at least I hope not- wouldn't THAT put a damper on our nursing efforts!) aaack. It does not help that I am exhausted from last night. She does not have a temperature and does not seem to be doing that colicky back-arching and stuff... what do I do?

You just sigh deeply and resign yourself to the fact that this is life today. Put her on the breast and sink into the couch and close your eyes.

I was just about to post our lil nursing marathon here. He has been on the breast 99% of the last 10 hours!!! When I try to put him down he starts crying either right away or within 3-5 minutes.

I had SO much planned for the day and so much that needs to be done. But what can I do? You just resign yourself and try to rest while she sleeps on the breast.

BTW you mentioned her acne getting worse last night and so did Lach's suddenly. I have a feeling this might be an allergy issue.

: What she said.

have you tried wearing her? Will she sleep at all or give you peace if you sling her. I don;t think you mentioned trying that...but ya' probably did since you tried everything else. Sometimes popping Caleb in the Moby is the only way I get *anything* done. He doesn't like to be put down for a nap.

Oh, Kerri. That's hard.

Check out my food allergy thread.

Funny you should mention that- we went to a VERY noisy holiday party last night and much to my surprise, Mairaed slept the entire 3 hours we were there despite barking dogs, screaming children, people yelling over all the hubbub... I do find that she zonks right out in the moby. I will have to prioritize my chores (wrapping, dishes, etc) based on what I can do while wearing her. I wish I could get my cookies baked....

Me too! Having a very hard time with that. DS loves to make the cut out sugar cookies and ice them. That takes hours from start to finish...

Gina, I just had a revelation. I gave Mairaed a sponge bath the other day with these lavender washcloths we got as a gift. Lo and behold, they have artificial fragrance. I need a smiley of hitting MYSELF in the head with a hammer! I can't believe I didn't read the label- if I can't use anything with artificial fragrances she would certainly not be able to tolerate them. Dang. I hope Lachlan's skin is doing better! I gotta go throw out these washcloths.

Also, she may be going through a growth spurt. I understand how you feel. I have people coming over this evening for dinner. My house is a wreck and all I have done is the broccoli salad and the cranberry relish started. Lilly just quieted down a little... oops. Spoke too soon.

ETA: She is finally out! I think she was just getting that last fuss out before sleep. She did have a diaper blowout this morning. And it was a sposie too. I put her in cloth after that and she hasn't had a total blowout since. Off to cook!

Yesterday when hubby and kids finally got home so I had help (6/7pm or so), Lach just PASSED out cold! Usually he's awake in the evening, but unless he was eating (with his eyes closed) he just passed out and stayed out (except for eating) all night. Must be the day was tiring for him too!

On the upside, I think he's thiiiis close to smiling!

Ollie was like this last weekend, and it was a growth spurt like someone mentioned in a previous post. He was eating constantly, crying if he wasn't eating, and ended up putting on 10 ounces last week alone!

The holiday party is what did it, I bet. New babies do what I call "self-defense sleeping" in noisy/chaotic situations; they'll squeeze their eyes shut and sleep through the whole thing. The next day you really pay for it, though; with all my kids I have had horrible fussy days after parties or lots of guests in the house.

Makes perfect sense. I never really thought of it in those terms, but it's always been pretty much the same here with my 3 kids.

Oh, please don't tell me that! We had a lot of kids and a LOT of noise here last night and I was getting squirmy. She didn't go to sleep in all of it though. We had double the usual of our regular Saturday Game Night. Some friends and their 4 kids came over. Usually, it's one couple and their son, a single friend, and a married guy and sometimes his wife and infant son. Everyone showed plus a friend of married and single guy. So, we had 17 people in my house ranging in age from 1 month to over 55, mostly under the age of 8. At one point, everyone was in the living room, the tv was on and so was the cd player. DD1 is being really good this morning, and DD2 is sleeping still after morning milk. Here's hoping for a day that is as smooth as this one has started, which is a rare thing.
