Normal sleeping at a few days old

It seems like all my baby does is sleep. Since I didn't have my daughter with me for the first 5 days of her life, I don't really know what is normal. It seems like he only has a couple of "alert" times during the day. He nurses well and wakes to eat but other than that he is sleeping all the time. Like maybe 22 hours a day... Is that normal at 72 hours old?

Sounds very normal to me. The older they get, the more awake time you get, until they are two and are convinced that sleep is for suckers.

I don't know if it's normal but that is what mine is doing, too. She seems VERY content to sleep now that my milk has come in. She is a bigger baby so not sure if that helps either.

Olivia's been a bit gassy, so it's drawing out her 'awake' times, but she's going 2-3 hours between feeds and sleeping a good 20-22 hours a day. She gets her best sleep overnight, thankfully, and usually makes it 3 hours from the time she's done nursing until she wakes up again.

yep thats pretty much all mine does, sleep, eat, sleep and poop and pee in between.

It's also normal if a baby suddenly wakes up after a few sleepy days and wants to eat constantly!

Iris slept like that for about the first week. She's had somewhat more awake time in the last 3-4 days. I say enjoy it while it lasts! Besides, how much fun is it to watch a sleeping baby, with all of their cute noises and facial expressions!
