Stovetop burners not working

This has been an ongoing problem, but it seems unfixable right now. Still, I thought I'd ask here before calling the Maytag Repair Guy.

Our Whirlpool electric oven has always been kind of temperamental. Both the large burners--front left and back right--intermittently don't work. We can jiggle them a bit and get the front one to work, but not the back. The light indicates that they're on; they just don't heat up. I don't think it's an issue with our electric source, but with the heating coil/connector itself. Any suggestions?

Our electric stove burners were only semi-functional when we moved into this house, so we went to the hardware store and bought replacement burners (seems like they cost about $17 each) and now it's the hottest stove I've ever had. HTH!
