for those of you who've btdt... when did you want to have sex again pp? when did you feel it was "ok" to? when did you actually start?

i had 2nd deg tears & stitches and am wondering how that will affect things, too.

Did you have stitches? Generally, once your stitches have dissolved and you feel up to it, its cool. Unless you have some specific medical reason why not (I can't think of a good example, but I'm sure there are reasons ). After Danny (episiotomy) I didn't want to have sex for many many months and it continued to be extremely painful for years, but after Julian, we were back at it within a few weeks. : And I tore with Julian and had a few stitches too.

Yeah, the stitches/tear went really close to my rectum!! Blegh. I'm just starting to feel "the urge" again and wondering when I might really be able to do it again. I'm still way too nervous/afraid of it hurting a lot. How long does it take stitches to heal up? My 6 week appt is 1/21 and I can probably wait till then out of fear alone, but my husband might cry.

You can always just do some making out and see how it goes. Make sure you have some lube handy. Coconut oil works really great. My DH had a hard time waiting too. After Danny I was in so much pain I told him that my OB said no sex for 3 months.

I told him that I could never imagine having sex again, after labor, 'cause I was in a LOT of pain and stitches don't feel that great. I can't imagine the episiotomy pain you must have had though... that sucks that you were in pain for so long after. Blegh!

It took Tom and I almost 3 months last time - we were both so tired and "out of practice" that it took a bottle of wine and the baby sleeping more than 2 hours to get up the courage, I don't expect it to take as long this time - my bleeding has already stopped, I'm not nearly as sore, and we didn't have the long end-of-pregnancy hiatus (he was freaked out about squishing baby. heh. Not so much this time). Then again, we now have two tiny people who want to butt into all of our fun, so we shall see...

Both times it was a good 3 months and it still hurt. I had stitches both times. I am hoping to not need any this time so we'll see what happens.

Around 3 months for us ... we tried earlier (like in the 8-ish weeks time frame) but it hurt like hell.

It was about 3-4 weeks before we started fooling around again, but much longer for sex. Mostly because I bled pp for 3 weeks, and we were told to wait the standard 6 weeks so we did. Then at 6 weeks I got my IUD in and it made me bleed for another 3 weeks until I got it taken out, and 3 weeks after it was out for my hormones to return to normal and all of the spotting to go away. So that makes, what, 12 weeks?

As soon as my bleeding is gone, I'm having sex dammit! I'm so freaking horny it's insane.

Okay...I think having sex is what turned the sporadic contractions I was having after nursing dd1 down for naptime into full blown labor. Four hours before baby was born we were having sex. So it's been just 2 weeks here, too. And I've been this way for about a week. My sex drive has returned a LOT earlier than it did with dd1.

after baby #1 we waited 6 weeks because that's what the Dr said to do.
After baby #2 we waited 14 days
After baby #3, #4 and #5 I have no idea, I think with #4 I was determined to beat my old record, but I really don't remember if we did or not.

This baby is 21 days old and I don't want to. Maybe because DH is being a jerk. He never helps with anything. He expects me to be superwoman.

DD#1 we almost waited the six weeks
DD#2 was just under 4 weeks...

This time... if I don't tear it'll probably be sooner.

It as 7 months before I wanted to, and could do it without pain, with dd. I don't know how long it will be this time but I am not interested yet!

Haven't thought about it. I think once I am not physically reminded by what went on down there (sitting, standing, peeing, pooing etc) then I may be ready. DH and I were both talking about how we are a little freaked out but he already said he would wait for as long as I needed.

After my episiotomy w/ dd#1 it took me FOREVER to want to DTD. I was SO SORE for months. Even a year later I was still sore.

This time I have a 2nd degree tear but no stitches. It's kind of funny, I was already thinking of DTD the other day (of course it's way too soon, but it came to my mind) ... the desire for it has come back much faster this time around!

But since I didn't get stitches, I am wondering if that affects the time I have to wait to DTD. When does a 2nd degree tear (without stitches) heal on its own??? Anyone know?
