Does anyone have one? I am going to get a free consulation this week but don't know what to expect. What are your experiences? Worth it? Not worth it? How much should we be paying? etc...

Definitey worth it!!! I was lucky enough to be selected by Working Mother Magazine (I was in the April edition) to receive a free financial makeover. I met with a financial planner and it was a great experience and I highly recommend you do it.

It's a little scary to face your financial situation. But they will direct you to making the best choices for you and your family. For example, here I thought I was doing the right thing by putting money away into a 529 college fund for my dd. Turns out, their recommendation was to stop doing that because the bigger priority is to make sure my savings account has 4-6 months of my salary as emergency funds. Which of course it didn't (I'm still working on that)! They will help you with life insurance choices, retirement funds, etc.

I don't know how much a planner costs but I would go to the free consultation and seriously consider going through with it. Especially if you have long term goals that seem out of reach (I'm still dreaming of buying a house) or if just can't seem to make ends meet and aren't sure what your priorities should be.

Wow, lucky you! I never really met (well I guess I still haven't met ) anyone who has won anything out of magazines and what not. That is awesome. I am going to the free consult tomorrow am. Will post my experience. I'm not sure what I have to do to secure my financial future for myself or my son, but would love some help figuring it out. I would love to own a house too!
