RRP and Velcro...help and advise please?

I have made several RRP diapers but the diaper pins I have are difficult to get through the flannel. My husband and I do not want to poke our son. However, I have ordered some heavy duty diaper pins to try later.

What about Velcro?

My question is...Has anyone used Velcro on Rita's rump pocket diaper? If so where did you put the Velcro? How much Velcro did you use? How did the diaper fit on your child?

Thanks, Clarissa

I don't know RRP diapers, but I don't see why aplix or touch tape wouldn't work. Another option is to sew on some snappi grip patches in the front and on the tabs (something like terry or fleece) and use a snappi to fasten. Sorry I am not much help.

I know that some people on Diaper Sewing Divas have used Velco on the RRPs. If you belong to that site you should check it out other wise just give it a try to see where you need to put the velcro. It shouldn't be too hard. Missy mom to 5

Hi! I am the one who designed the RRP pattern.

www.handmadebyrita.blogspot.com

Check out my Rita's Rump Cover pattern. It is basically the RRP with shorter wings so you can put velcro on it. It works great as a cover for RRPs or trifolded PFs, or just use that pattern with your cotton fabrics and make a pocket and you have a RRP with aplix! If you make it into a pocket be sure to sew your front loop on before putting the diaper together.

You might need to extend the wings out a bit (on the cover pattern) if you are using woven fabrics (like flannel). It is designed for fleece which is stretchy (like knit cotton fabrics). I make my tabs crossover also.

If you have any questions at all please PM me. I would love to help!

BTW, when you get good diaper pins they should go through the flannel easily. The trick is store them in a bar of soap or rub the ends through your hair by your scalp. The soap or hair oils make the pins slide through so much easier. The hair trick works great, even if you have freshly washed hair. Can't figure out why it works so well, but it does!

Anyway, RRPs make great aplix diapers. However, if you put aplix on them you can't put them on tiny babies since you won't want to fold down the front where the aplix is.

Here are some pics of RRPs made with aplix. The green one is a Franken Bun AIO adapted one (the link is on my site, see below) and has PUL down the middle and wings of fleece.

Today, the heavy duty pins came in the mail, so I will try the soap and hair trick on the flannel diapers that I made.

amberthesugarcat....I really love your patterns. I have been playing with different fabrics so I can make a pocket AIO diaper. I have added Velcro to the first RRP and it worked out quite well.

Anyhow I will post some pictures later. Thanks for the help.
