What music does your toddler love?

I am SO sick of Laurie Berkner........we need some new selections in our CD player, any suggestions? My son really likes silly lyrics.

My DS loves music. Period. He jams to everything: elevator music, pop, metal, goth rock, Christmas carols, nursery rhymes, EVERYTHING.

But he's soooo cute when he head bangs to canned muzak, and does his little happy, bouncy, turn-y dance to Korn!

Mine like annoying toddler music, like all kids, but they like some good stuff, too. They like Operation Ivy, Cocteau Twins, The Cure, Hindu chants, etherel goth...all kinds of stuff. They were dancing to my boyfriend's Pet Shop Boys cd the other day, much to our amusement .


The Cure has some songs with silly lyrics, like "Lovecats" and "The Caterpillar". I put those on a mixed cd I made for the girls once.

DD (26 months) loves Alice Cooper and Ozzy.

Anything with a lot of drums. She also likes pretty much everything from Jack's Big Music Show. I wish those songs were more easily available. She likes the Sweet Potato song, I'm So Glad, the violin guys (my two year old plays air violin), Duck 4, It's Good To Be Me, Wombo Lombo - if I could have these in the car she'd never get tired of riding.

DD's current favorites are Laurie Berkner, Dan Zanes, They Might Be Giants and Queen's Greatest Hits.

If you thought you were sick of Laurie Berkner, try listening to "We will, we will ROCK YOU!" every day However, it does amuse me when she tries to stomp and clap and sing at the same time!

We play The Doors, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, etc. for my almost 14 month old. She seems to like the music and usually "dances" to it. I cannot stand kids music and we refuse to buy/play it.

Ds LOVES Elizabeth Mitchell (and so do I). He also likes his Putumayo Animal and Folk Playground CD's (we were just listening to Animal Playground while I had him in his sling.....we were swaying and he just about fell asleep). Ah...the precious moments of parenthood!

there not toddlers anymore. but, both my kids started being big fans of Queen when they were around 1 or 2

I must second all these suggestions! Elizabeth Mitchell is our favorite over here (You Are My Flower and You Are My Little Bird are the best albums IMO), and all the Putumayo Playground albums are fantastic.

I must also second Dan Zanes.

Annie Lenox for nap time. David Crowder Band (Christian alternative kind of), Tina Turner, Led Zeppelin, The Cure, that song "I like to Move it Move it", stuff with a good beat or lots of guitar. No kids music around here, if I can avoid it.

dan zanes is HUGE in our house we been to 2 concerts and are going to another soon. ds also like the traditional kids songs once in a while and also loves John Gailmore (for right here in VT) we love those free concerts he does too!

Ds's favorite song is "We will rock you". He also likes AC/DC....we have a DVD of concert footage that dp and him love to watch together.

My son loves his Kindermusic CD's.

My kids love "Trout Fishing In America." We have their "Family Music Party" CD with some fun songs, including a tribute to coffee with a super-hard sing-along chorus ("All I want is a proper cup of coffee, made in a proper copper coffee pot.....) and one about a baby hiding her dad's car keys in her diaper.

We also like Billy Jonas' "What Kind of Cat are You?" CD, especially the title song, which works in such types of cat as "catalytic converter," "catapult," and "catacombs."

I'm really looking forward to the release of the "They Might Be Giants" numbers CD that comes out in February. After one of the TV shows my kids watch (Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, maybe?) they sometimes show the video for this zero song, and my kids are riveted. They request it over and over. It's going on ds's birthday list for sure.

As for not really kids music, my kids love anything that has a really repetitive chorus, because they like to sing along. Their current favorite band is The Police, although I'm not sure how much I love them singing along to "Roxanne (You don't have to put on the red light.... those days are over, you don't have to sell your body to the night...)" Hmmmm.
