First Bath?

When did/do you plan on giving baby their first bath? Reese hasn't had a bath- sponge or otherwise- yet. I know she'll need one at some point, but I was just wondering if anyone else is putting it off? I want to keep the newbie smell around as long as I can!

I just used wash cloths for the first week or so.
After the billycord fell off, I held him in my arms, and took a bath with him.
It was a wonderful calm experience.

Hey...our Babies have the same birthday!!

I just gave Silas his fist bath this morning. I took him in the tub with me...we both smelled like baby puke!!!!!

He LOVED it

He kept kicking his little legs in the water, and he seemed so content. It was my Special Christmas morning gift for sure!

We didn't use any soap...

Olivia got her first post-hospital bath today - she's two weeks and hasn't even been sponge-bathed since that initial wipe-down. I prolly should have just taken a bath with her - she was pretty underwhelmed with the infant tub!!

Yeah my son didn't like the infant tub for quite a while. He seemed to like as much skin-to-skin for reassurance as possible.

It took a little while before he got his waterwings.

We never used any soap either. His skin just smelled too sweet.

I've been sharing my post partum herbal baths with dd. The herbs are so soothing, for both of us, and I think it has helped her navel heal that much more quickly.

I brew the herbs very strong, then add the tea to a very hot bath. I soak until it's cooled off enough for her, then dh brings her to me...she absolutely loves it! no soap, but I do massage all her creases to get any milk dribbles, etc. The herbs smell so wonderful and are so calming, but they don't overpower her natural sweet scent.

I'm gonna be really bummed when I run out of herbs!

What herbs do you use in your bath?

It's a mix of comfrey root, comfrey leaf, myrhh gum powder, dried garlic, sage leaf, sea salt, uvi ursi leaf, shepherd's purse, and lavender.

It smells so good--the whole house smells great when it is steeping, and the bath smells wonderful, too! I used the same blend when ds2 was born, and now the smell just totally evokes "newborn" for me.

I need to find out from my mw what amounts of each herb to use, then I could blend my own to use any time!

It's so chilly that I don't want to even give Riley a "bird bath" He was pretty clean after his water birth except for membrane in his hair...I washed it the day after he was born and I've oiled him up a couple of times (his skin is soooo dry).

I'll probably not do anything else until sometime after his cord falls off.

my mw told me it was ok to bring baby in the bath with me from day 1. she said the herbs i am using for the bath are good for baby's cord, too. the cord hasn't fallen off yet. i took baby in with me on day 2. she nursed the whole time, and was very happy.
