Am I in trouble?

I'm having an IUD pregnancy. The IUD is not in my cervix, it's completely in the uterus. It cannot be removed until the baby is born. I'm 16 weeks right now. I've been warned to keep an eye out for sepsis.
The last few days, I've been burning up like I've got the flu, but with absolutely no other flu symptoms. I've also had dizzy spells, fainting spells, and disorientation. My fever, though, isn't over 102.5, so I'm unsure as if I should be worried. Should I be concerned? Or should I just take it easy? It's Xmas, so I don't want to call and worry if I don't need to.....

Sorry I haven't kept my post up.
I ended up calling my midwife after passing out in front of my kids, yet again.... She said because I wasn't having stomach cramps or anything, she wasn't worried about it being anything other than a hydration issue. I drank a ton of gingerale (please, no lectures about soda....my midwife says its okay to drink it, because I throw water back up) and was fine for a few days. I have passed out a few times in the last few days, but nothing else going on. I haven't been in to see her yet, although I have an appointment on Tuesday. I am a little concerned, though, because I had felt the baby move *midwife confirmed that I was really feeling the baby, not gas* at 13 weeks...and haven't felt it for a week. But, we'll see. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed.

I think 102.5 is too high to just be a dehydration issue. Passing out numerous times?! Do you still have a fever? I would strongly recommend seeing a doctor or going to the emergency room if you are still having symptoms. Even if there is no infection, you may opt for a bag of fluids to help keep you from passing out while alone with your children. I am so sorry you are going through this and I don't want to sound like an alarmist, but your post makes me uncomfortable.

go to the ER, you could have a serious infection- and it doesn't always hurt-
the passing out just doesn't track and needs to be investigated- blood work ultrasound...
take care

Ditto! I think your midwife has missed the boat on this one. The fever, disorientation, and passing out are NOT normal, regardless of whether you are cramping or not. Please get to a doctor right away and please report back here when you know what's happening.

They all said it before I could. Please consider being evaluated further. I'm concerned about your health.

Yeah. I'm quite worried about your symptoms. You may like your mw very much indeed, but you really need further evaluation by someone else.

Please keep us posted.

Bumping again....

Emily, how are you? Please let us know. I've been thinking of you and hoping all is well.

I just saw this thread today - please get a second opinion ASAP. I would be going to the ER.

I'm not a birth professional, but I got pregnant on the copper IUD. Mine had shifted position, so they were able to take it out. But what you're describing could be symptoms of an infection, which my doctor warned me about. The fever, the dizziness, the disorientation are ALL of the same symptoms my doctor told me to look for in cases of infection. An infection with the IUD is very serious. It can spread fast. Don't take any chances with this.

I hope everything is alright!

I hope that you are okay as well.

has anyone heard from emily?

please update us when you're feeling well enough to do so! i'm very concerned about your symptoms, 102.5 isn't exactly borderline (in the hospital, typically anything over 100.4 should be further evaluated) and the episodes of confusion and loss of consciousness are absolutely signs of possible sepsis!

i hope you're ok

Hey everyone! It's been a HELLISH month!!!! It turns out the symptoms were pnemonia (sp) and bronchitis (Sp).... I've had 2 ultrasounds to make sure the baby is okay and everything is fine...in fact, we found out we're having another girl! Josephine Mackenzie it is....
ANYWAY....I did end up in the ER to get checked and everything seems to have worked itself out. I still have fainting issues and really massive dizzy spells but there is no explanation. I've been told to double up on the prenatal vitamins, so I'm doing that...
Sorry it took me a while !!!!!!

Thanks for the update and glad to hear you're ok and your baby is doing well!

I hope someone has an idea about the fainting/dizzy spells, or they resolve soon.

Sorry you had a rotten month but I'm glad you're okay. I was really worried about your symptoms. As for the fainting and dizziness, let me guess....does you blood pressure tend to run really low? Try drinking LOTS of water... at least two full quarts EVERY day. And up your salt intake a bit. Pregnancy is no time for a low salt diet. Sometimes a visit to a really good chiropractor or acupunturist can help with these kind of issues too.

Best wishes for good health for the rest of your pregnancy. Keep us posted on how you are doing!
