This is inspiring.

I am the type of person who loves things cute and orderly, yet :
1. Don't have much money to throw around on it(we live in the valley making lots of money and pay all of it in rent!UGGGH)
2. Dh is not as concerned as I am.

I need to get my closets cleaned out and I would love to post pics of what I do have done so far. I try to be very neat and organized for the amount fo stuff we do everyday- in which things really get displaced a lot. It's my hallway closets that are a disgrace. they have become the catch all for everything. Anything not currently being used or projects stored for the future get trapped there. I would not even show you our garage.

But the rest of our house is organized fairly well for the amount of things the kids are interested in and the amount of crafting I set my hands too

Okay, here it goes. I have notes on most of the photos. We're a family of five in a small Cape Cod . . . about 1200 sq. ft. Our basement is semi-finished . . . I've painted the walls and floor and have hung curtains and sheet around some of the yuckier areas . It's not the prettiest, but I'm proud of the work I've done so far.

Disclaimers--

I took these photos without cleaning anything up (except the bathroom counter--I did clean that).

We're in the middle of end of the year decluttering and cleanup . . . I'll be busy on Freecycle this week.

There are lots of "real life" moments in these photos . . . I consider my journey to declutter and organize a work in progress!

I love it Jess!

Is the cube shelf storage from IKEA? What about the canvas bags in them? They fit so perfectly!

This is like the best thread ever... thank you so much to those that have shared so far! I'll have to figure out flickr so I can share my own as well... we're not so uncluttered, but I've definitely found I've had to radically change my way of doing things when we went from a family of four to a family of six. I wish I had photos of how we had our home organized a few years ago to show a comparison... this thread will motivate me to take photos now though for future reference.

Not my house so I can't say for sure, but we have cube storage that looks almost identical to that and got it at Target. The bins for ours came in tons of colors too.

are the bins quite sturdy? i have branas baskets and i can't stand them. they are strong, but damage the finish of our ikea cubes, and little toys get lost in the weave, and they scratch us. rrr.

Yep. Got it at Target. Have plans for the lower 2x4 one as well.

The bins are canvas and fairly sturdy. The do bend and move and aren't good for standing on or sitting in (as DD has discovered). But not bad for 2 for 11.00 (the sale price). We have a bunch that fit on other shelves, too.

Bins and shelves are on sale this week at Target, too.

We got ours at Target as well, but I also saw them at Lowe's (similar price too).

ETA: They fit perfectly in the Ikea Billy Bookcases!

I have four kids ages 9, 8, 5, and 3-1/2. We homeschool and are at home most of the time. Our walls desperately need new paint/wallpaper and our ceilings need work, too, so that unfortunately adds to the cluttered feel, but I don't think it shows much in the pictures. It's a work in progress. I didn't feel comfortable posting pics at all until now, because I wanted to make sure that we could reasonably maintain the decluttered look, not just have it after a cleaning frenzy. And now we do! I included "real life" pics of my kitchen sink area and the boys' stuff just to keep it real. Looks much better when the dishes are nowhere in sight and the boys' stuff is all neatly on their shelf, but that is the exception rather than the rule.

Anyway, I am very excited to finally have pics to share.
Thanks for sharing the pics of your home. They are quite inspirational! I need to get busy.

Like amanda, this is pretty much how it is on a daily basis, there's nothing lurking in closets or anything, LOL! I will say that it has taken me a LONG time to get to this neat stage, and being married to a very anal, obsessive DH who needs the neatness in order to function, well, it helped, LOL!

I know I've posted them here before, but I will again because I think they're so helpful. The best thing I ever did for my home was develop my brain files - they take the "thinking" out of housework for me, I just do what is on the page for the day.
Thanks for sharing! I saved the brain files, too. Hopefully, this will help me get it together.

Ann--
Thanks for sharing your pics, too! I love the paint in the master bathroom.

Jess,
great pics!

I am on a massive decluttering mission. We are a family of 7-- 5 kids 2 adults, but, my husband is a compulsive horder-- he even hordes garbage. So it is difficult to stay on top of things.

kids' room-- 3-4 kids sleep here each night:

baby's room (well, she's 2 1/2!)-- 1-2 kids sleep here each night:

bathroom:

kitchen (not a very pretty kitchen ) decluttered just today:

(you can see the "before" kitchen pictures in my other thread)

While yes, there is still clutter, it has been decreased 90% and is stored in containers. In the past it hasn't been uncommon to lose sight of the floor.

While I complain a lot about how ugly my kitchen is, the fact that it was in this state when we bought the house, was the main reason we were able to afford it.

yes...We've bought the bins and cube units at Target and Lowes – Target has them on sale quite often. (Our playroom has several set up and they are great to group smaller items - puppets, blocks, etc.) Puzzles fit nicely in the cubes. The bins are sturdy - I originally used jute baskets but my kids crushed them. These bins are pretty indestructible! We bought them when the kids were really young so we attached the cube units to the wall. I think they may be easy to pull over or climb.

Thank you to everyone who shared photos. I love looking at them and have been motivated to continue to decluttering and organizing!
