justmama. I'm so sorry you have these dark memories mixed in with the happy ones.

How are you doing today, Allyn? Any better?

AlwaysByMySide, No, being induced doesn't always mean you'll end in a C section. My firstborn was induced and I birthed vaginally without pain medication. But I distinctly remember crying and looking up at my husband and asking, "Where is my break?! They said in between contractions you get a break! Where is my break?" I was very confused because no one explained to me that contractions come harder and faster with pitocin and there IS no break. I wish I had known that beforehand. I would have chosen not to be induced. I had that choice.

I realize some people may not have a choice if its medically necessary, but the OP does.

She catches every cold and germ that comes around despite nursing until 22months. She has sensory integration issues. She's terrified of doctors and their latex gloves and it gives her panic attacks. I just want you to realize that even a week or two makes a HUGE difference.
BeanBean was born at 37w3d and he spent a week in NICU w/meconium inhalation. Bella spent a day or two in NICU for respiratory distress, and she was nearly 37 weeks at birth. It happens all the time, and there is little to no support for you if your baby was that near term, that "healthy." If you have a baby at 33 weeks or earlier, at least nobody expects you to get by and do it on your own. I was horrified by Bean going to NICU, and when Bella went I absolutely sobbed. Oh, yes, there was a support group at the hospital for NICU parents, but what business did I have there? The only babies as big as mine had been there for 2-3 months already. What could I possibly have to be upset about? my kid was probably going to come home within a few days of my discharge, at the latest. Why should I have nightmares about the smell of that soap. . . (I can smell it in my mind. I can half taste it. )

Yeah. Gotta get off the NICU thing. It's freaky.

Just want to say...you don't always get a break with natural birth, either....DS was completely natural, and contractions were 60-90 sec long and 90-120 sec apart the ENTIRE time from start to finish...talk about exhausting....there was no gradually getting closer contractions.

I haven't read through all the posts, but though I'd share my experiences. I had a voluntary induction at 38 w with my twins (apparently, I was already 4cm dialated... ???) With being hooked up to so many things, I was stuck on my back, in awful pain (way worse than pregnancy pain) and ended up with a c after the most painful exhausting time in my life. Plus, the recovery was much worse since 'the stars are not aligned' being ready for the birth with an induction (mother nature's hormones), which really makes the recovery awful. And my milk took a lot longer to come in.

Believe me, I'm on my 4th baby (3rd pregnancy) and pregnancy pain is much easier than induction pain. And the more natural the better for afterwards, too.

Try and hang in there - you're really almost there!!!

Not really, but thanks for asking.

It is getting worse but I just keep telling myself it is not much longer and the baby will be better off if I just let him come when he can.

We cannot afford to go to the chiropractor right now, so today I bought a large exercise ball to sit on. Hopefully that will help some.

Thank you all for your stories, I do not want to induce if we don't need to but I just get kinda wimpy sometimes.

to all of you mamas

I had a voluntary induction 1 week after my due date last time. It went just fine, no pain meds. just the pitocin to start the contractions. They started me at 9:30ish A.M. and I delivered at 2:30 P.M.

Wasn't that bad, and the contractions didn't hurt any more than the previous pg's. And, I did have a break between contractions. I had pitocin with pg#2 and #3 but not with #1. All three seemed the same to me.

I don't know about doing it before the due date. That makes me a little nervous. I'd be afraid my body wouldn't be ready and wouldn't respond in the correct way.

I had the PSD with the last pg and with this one too. Just try to carefully plan how you roll over in bed. Sometimes, I put my hands under my hips to help myself. Hang in there!!!
