My 18 yr old just introduced me to Steven Colbert. lol OMG, I could not stop laughing. I need to get cable. There is so much cool stuff on the tube. He was reading me excerpts from Colbert's books and it was the most fun I'd had in awhile. Oh, and he also showed me this video:

I had no idea there was such great stuff on. I thought it was a comedy skit at first. I had no idea the guy with the bow tie was 'real'.

The end had me in stiches.

It's just *so* funny! The Youtube clip is of Jon Stewart on Crossfire. I never heard of that show...when ds started it up, I thought it was a Saturday Night live type sketch. The guy with the bow tie seems such a character.

We spent quite a bit of time looking at YouTube videos last night. I am seriously thinking about cable. At Christmas parties this week, my SILs talked about The Food Network, and some of it seemed really interesting. I don't know if I want to make the cable leap, but these things tempt me. : Is there a way to get The Food Network and Comedy Central and nothing else?

I wish! Those are the only two cable channels I really miss having!

if I had it my way, I'd just get those two channels too. But since that's not an option, I'll just hang out on recipezaar.com and watch youtube for free.

i'm going to reiterate recipezaar, cause if you aren't addicted yet, you are SO missing out. lol.

Ha ha... I remember that. The bow tie guy DOES seem like somebody from a sketch. Too hilarious.

The guy with the bow tie is Tucker Carlson, who pretty much always seems like a cartoon parody of himself. He was also the first person voted off Dancing with the Stars the season before last

UUMom, cable is a wonderful, horrible thing , I love my tv, but could spend waaaay too much time in front of it, especially in winter (6 months long around here, so that's a lot of tv.) I love The Daily Show, and the Colbert Report, and can't wait until the writers strike is over and they are out of reruns!

My ds has introduced me to many, many funny shows I never would've watched on my own (even Southpark . I love The Colbert Report and The Jone Stewart show. Did you all see when Steven Colbert was running for president in one of the primary states? His speech was sooooooooo funny! I still haven't figured out if it was for real or not. We didn't have cable until ds was 12 years old. We were just talking the other day about how deprived he was growing up. I wish we could pick and choose the channels we got instead of having to get packages. DS also showed me Weird Al Yankovich videos on the internet. Remember that guy?

LOl I do remember Al. I think he's still popular...some recent Star Wars song makes me think so. My greatest recollection is Short People--that was him, right? I am a short person. 5'2', but i still thought it was was a funny/insane song. lol

I am leaning towards Dish. It seems to have everything I want, at a cheaper price than my cable co can offer. I am awaiting emails from a couple of (guy) friends of the "how many pixels is that?" sort whose opnions will help us decide.

My 18 yr old tells me that we had 'accidental' cable for a few months when he was about 8. He says it lasted a couple of months. It magically went on, and then magically went off. My dh confirms this wires-crossing glitch. I do not remember such a thing, but it seems we have experienced more than 10 channels in our children's lifetime.

Yeah Wierd Al did "White and Nerdy" last summer I think. It's funnier if you are familiar with the real song "Riding Dirty", but it's just funny anyway even if you're not. Youtube it! Hilarious, and it has Donny Osmond dancing in the back ground and Seth Green doing a cameo spot too.

Yeah, that's one my ds just showed me. It cracked me up. I missed Donny Osmond. I was in love with him when I was probably about 8 years old (dating myself). I had a Donny Osmond pillowcase that I kissed goodnight every night.

I've heard not so good things about sattelite TV. The few people I've known who had it complained about how the weather affected reception.

I'm drawn to Dish. I it seems ?rea$onable?, if there is such a thing in this context, and I can get what I need for 29.99/mos it seems. Not sure, waiting on some emails.

I've noticed quite a few houses around here with sattelite have more than one dish facing different directions. That might be how to overcome the problems with losing the signal or whatever it is.
I had the dish for awhile and hated it. Dish network said they would charge me some major $$$ to come and fix it when it suddenly went out for no apparent reason.

We do the cable, great deal in our area: local/long distance, cable and broadband for $100 bucks. And if something goes wrong they fix it for free.

Favorites: Food Network, Comedy Central and AMC

I'm totally in love with Jon Stewart

*I like going into the Teen forum to lessen my fears of what will happen in ten years... *

And thanks for that Dish info. I had no idea there was *all this* out *there*. lol

Short People was Randy Newman, who does the Toy Story songs. I'm not short, so I don't know if I can have an opinion

Wierd Al played here recently at the arena where I work. I was able to get tickets for me and ds. I think I was the only woman in the crowd Ds loved it, Wierd Al must still be very popular, the show was originally going to be a 2000 seat, but the capacity had to be more than doubled to a 5000 seat show because of how fast the tix sold out.

I was a very funny show, but way too long for me. As far as ds was concerned, it could have gone all night. The funniest part for me was the group of 18yos behind us who knew *all* the lyrics to every...single...song.
