need books to normalize and empower/inspire

my cousin's wife is preggo! and she needs some books to read that NORMALIZE pregnancy and natural childbirth. I thought I'd tap the brains of all your professionals out there - cuz you'll know exactly what books will fit these specific needs.

She seems really overwhelmed (maybe terrified is a better word?) and has no experience or family members who can normalize birth (besides me). She is convinced that she will have a CS simply cuz her mom and her cousin had one (even though her sis did not). She also commented that she is "terrified of just the idea of giving birth without an epidural" - but there is hope - she really does wants to learn and she wants to do what is "best" for her baby - she already decided to BF cuz "all the research I've done says it is the best for baby."

I am thinking that if I provide her with research and info on how childbirth is really a NORMAL condition and not a medical thing, she will listen to it. And info on how midwifery is really a safe (safer IMO) way to birth. She wants to use a naturopath but MWs scare her - I don't get it....

So I need some books that will lay out all the pregnancy and childbirth info for her in a non scary manner, show her that a MW and BC really would be safer than a hospital, show her how the hospital and all those interventions start the cascade, etc.

Also are there any books that are just empowering, inspiring, positive birth stories? Right now I think she needs good birth stories even more than technical info....

TIA!

I have read LOTS of pregnancy and birth books (I think all of them) and I have to say I was surprised at how great the new Lamaze book is. Its perfect for someone without any background experience in birth and all the politics involved and it hits on just about everything without being overwhelming or pushy. Great for someone a little more mainstream. Talks about everything from normal birth and how to keep it that way to early parenting and co-sleeping. There is also a great section on negotiating with caregivers. Anyone else read this and thought it was good?

Of course all the usual recommendations are:

Ina May's Guide to Childbirth
Birthing from Within
Attachment Parenting or and Dr. Sears book
The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding Answer Book

But, I really like how the Lamaze book hits on everything.

I am reading Ina May's Guide to Childbirth right now (for Hypnobabies educator training) and it is AMAZING. I wish I had it before I conceived my first. If you get nothing else, get this book. There are no words to express how amazing this book is. I am considering gifting it to clients (when I have some )

Thinking Womens Guide to a better childbirth(by Henci Goer) is a must read. Also like everyone else said Ina Mays guide to Childbirth. Also Pregnancy, Childbirth and the Newborn is a really great book that covers every thing. It is wrote by Penny Simkin who is the doula of all doulas. Finally i would suggest Birth Partner for your brother to read it is also by Penny Simkin. This book really helps partners prepar for childbirth. I am a doula and these are the books i suggest my clients read. If your sister in-law is hiring a doula her doula may have a lending library with all of these books in it.
