hey there, i am a doula, working on my certification with DONA, and an aspiring midwife. I am aslo a fam user, and i would love to become certified to teach it. Does any do that? Anyone know how i could get that certification?

I have a friend who teaches it, but from the perspective of Catholicism, which is probably not what you're looking for...

I think Toni Weschler, author of TCOYF has certification for her mothod... it has been many years since I read it, but I thought I remembered that she offers it.

I just asked a similar question

I teach FAM. Well, actually sympto-thermal method, as I do have clients occasionally who are using NFP. I prefer to "label" myself as a teaching a secular method, but anyone who wants to learn or needs help is welcome to contact me.

I had the same questions as you a while back, and I contacted the Fertility Awareness Network. It's a good place to start.
There are no programs/courses in the US that lead to certification. There is a program called Justisse, based out of Canada that I've heard great things about. Here in the US there is a network of teachers (The Fertility Awareness Network) These teachers have met professional standards and review to be included in the network:

Katie Singer, who wrote Garden of Fertility, has a study guide for aspiring FAM teachers. Here's that link:

And, of course, if you would like to teach Natural Family Planning through a religious organization, there are courses and certification offered through the Church.

another ressource

Ilene Richman now runs the FAC in New York. She's a great resource for all things FAM, but I don't know that she's certifying as yet. Reach her at www.fertaware.com.

Good luck!

i fell into teaching it; i have no certification.

at first, i just mentioned it in a yoga for thyroid class--explained how it worked, hwo it can help us gauge thyroid function, etc--and then gave them the book to look into it more.

as more people wanted more info, i started teaching small groups in homes (groups of 4-6 women). and then, i started teaching young girls just after menarche (as part of their blood mysteries and menarche ritual training) with a group of women that i met years ago who do this sort of work.

i didn't do much more than read katie singer's and toni weschler's books, and then i got the reading list for katie singer's study guide--though i haven't finished that work. . .i still teach the basics and help people troubleshoot when their charts are strange.

could you tell me more about blood mystery and rituals? it sounds really interesting.
right around the time that i got my doula classes done i posted similar questions and got a call from a woman i think in boston, but i donot remember her name and she called in the middle of something super busy and what she was saying got lost but i recal it being what i was looking for and now i kick myself!
i know there is no cert. but i would like to be more qualified to teach it. right now i just spout off to everyone who talks to me for more than an hour!
