Hi Mamas,
I'm so excited, I just had to show the beautiful toys and playstands my DH made for DS for Christmas with people who would understand (my family still doesn't quite get the idea of natural, open-ended toys yet).

DH is a teacher with very little woodworking experience and really basic tools, but I think he did a great job. If we can do it - anyone can!

We're planning to be Waldorf-inspired homeschoolers and have really not had many toys for DS while he's been so young (he mostly has played with household and kitchen stuff) so he's enjoying having more of his own things and we're happy to have things he can grow into.

Photo album here.
Thanks for letting me share!

That stuff is awesome. Did you dh have a plan for the house, or did he make it up as he went? If there is a plan, where did he get it; I'd love to build something like that for my boys.

What gorgeous, wonderful toys! Where did you get the pattern for the chickens?

wow amazing stuff!

I love the little doll house your DH made? Did he use a pattern for it?

My little brother is training to be a joiner and I'm trying to talk him into making some stuff for our kids If that doesn't work I might just have to go borrow his tools myself! LOL

It is all fantastic! My father was at the house recently watching the girls play with their handmade wooden toys and he commented that it wouldn't be too difficult to make such things. I doubt that I personally have the talent to do so, but I'm sure hoping that my dad is inspired to make things as beautiful as your DH did. Well done!

Thanks so much Mamas! We're having a lot of fun with everything!

Some PP asked about patterns - my DH didn't use a written pattern for anything, just shamelessly copied pictures of toys online. He drew the animals from ones here (I think there was a thread in this forum a while ago about making wooden animals by a mama who did an amazing job. There was a lot of good info on how to do it there. You can probably find it in a search.) and copied this house. There are patterns for the knitted chickens in the book All Year Round.
