Period question

Good morning all!!! My DD is 13 and started her periods 1.5 years ago and has always been like clock work. She had her December visitor on the 2nd this month but it only lasted about three days. Yesterday she started again. Is this normal??? I have never had normal cycles, sometimes only one a year, so I am not real familiar with the "norm".

Yes, this is normal, and for the most part an expected occurance in adolescence. It may or may not happen again. Menstrual cycles are not set in stone and reassure her that even the most "regular" people have off months.

My dd, 14.5, just got hers this week-last was in Oct. Sallie

Totally normal. I'm pretty regular, but a shorter cycle or a longer one here and there is typical. Sometimes my body will decide to sync up with a new moon, and that can cause a few weird cycles until things get back on track.

Thanks all! I appreciate your input...

I kept track of my cycles and graphed them for many years (the scientist in me) sometimes I'd be pretty regular but I could vary from 14-36 days. I think I even had a 42 day cycle. This lasted well into my twenties. Now I am as regular as clockwork (i'm in my thirties).

*whew* I'm seeing this same thing with my 11 yo. I was wondering as well. I feel better.

my daughter who is now almost 16, had very irregular periods her first year. She bled a little almost constantly, and then stopped for like 3 months, and then started again and had a full blown period for 10 days. It was very bizarre. I asked at her well checkup and they said to track it for another few months and if she was still all out of whack they'd look at putting her on the pill. I abruptly said NO to that. Thankfully, it straightened out.
That said, my own period can be clockwork 30 days for 6 months, then go 42 days the next month and 18 days the next. I wouldn't worry about it unless there's any reason to suspect she's "active".
My 13 year old is pretty regular, but we don't really chart hers too much. Seems to be about 30+ days each time.

kudos to you, momma!! I see LOADS of YOUNG girls (11, 12, 13) in the ER on BCP, for 'irregular periods'. YUCK!!
