My son's here, and he's staying intact!

Hi, I thought I'd tell you all that another boy is keeping his penis the way it was meant to be! They asked me once during a prenatal check if I planned to circumcise. Other than that I was pleasantly surprised that I was never asked once in the hospital if we were having it done! Not the OB, or nurses, or even the pediatrician asked. The ped is the only one who went near his diaper area and he didn't try to retract at all. I had the AAP guidelines printed off just in case. He didn't mention his intact status at all. Of course, no one told me proper care of the intact penis either but the (correct) info was in my discharge papers.

I called today to set up his two week check and the receptionist did ask me if I planned to circ. I said no and she very apologetically said she had to inform that "blah blah blah they could only circumsize him in the hospital for x weeks and it would cost x dollars because it's not covered by insurance, if I decide to get it done later it would be done at the urologists for x more dollars instead, blah blah blah". She then apologized again for having to say it and sounded really embarrassed. I told her I didn't think it would be a problem and my nine year old is doing just fine with his foreskin.

I don't get it. Is she telemarketing circumcisions? Weird.

Congrats and enjoy your new little one! Thanks for sharing your story (although I agree, that is so weird about the docotor's office receptionist...sounds like soliciting unnecessary surgery on an infant to me, and I would complain that it sounds like that is official policy).

Congrats I WAS asked in the hospital AFTER he was born, if he was circ'd, by the midwife who was checking on me. When I said NO she said GOOD FOR YOU!

Smart midwife. Now I only wish the hospital, which was great in every other way, would ban it
