oy. choosing a double stroller is making me INSANE!

i cannot decide. side by side? tandem?

babes are new (obv) and almost 2.5. we live in nyc, so i don't want a huge, heavy one, but we walk a lot, so i want it to be comfortable to push.

the front runner is the joovy caboose - but i'm concerned that if ds1 is sleepy, he can't sleep sitting on the shelf thing.

also considering maclaren, but will i be able to fit thru tiny nyc store aisles?

i can't stop scouring the internet hoping the perfect stroller will be invented for me!

I choose the maclaren, but I'm still waiting for it to come, so I don't have any of my own experience with it. However I choose it (after much much debate) because my friends have it (they have a 3 year old and a 10 month old). I was able to push it this summer, and absolutely loved it. It was able to fit in all the doorways, and easy to steer. You could put both sides down, or one side down the other up. Both kids could see. It was very lightweight compared to other strollers I've pushed.
I should be getting mine anyday now, and then I can really tell you if I like it or not.

I have the Joovy Caboose. I liked how compact and easy to use it is. DD is 2.5 and we only really use a stroller at the zoo and the museum and she never falls asleep in it. DD also really likes to get in and out of the stroller herself so I wanted to make sure she could come and go as she pleased.

Valco baby makes a great double and they have a stacking option to add a third seat. Their single also becomes a double.

If you go with the Joovy I HIGHLY recommend you go with the lightweight. We have it and I adore it. I wanted the Phil and Ted's e3, but the Joovy is a good stroller and half the price. It steers like a dream. We took it all over the mall tonight and had the baby seat in the front and coats on the jumpseat and dd standing on the platform and I could still easily push it with one hand. We had it another night with dd1 in the front seat, a 4 y/o daycare child on the jumpseat and it was still just as easy to push. Manuvers very well, too.

I've been looking for strollers too, and I'm thinking of getting a sit and stand...

but have you ever seen a Phil and Ted stroller? http://www.joggingstroller.com/Phil-...02350CHARCOAL0
it looks pretty cool, it can be a single OR double stroller.

i'd get it if i had the cash! it sounds nice because it's maneuverable and you can have two kiddo's in it AND they could both be sleeping, unlike the sit and stand.

Just popping in to say double strollers suck.

I have one of those huge ones with one seat in front and one in back and a matching carseat that drops in.

I friggin hate it.

Its heavy and it is HUGE and annoying. Hard to push.

Go with something LIGHT....and side by side.

Or go with wearing one and strolling the other.

If it is in your budget, I would go for the Phil and Teds with the doubles kit. http://www.joggingstroller.com/Phil-...-SP-Single.pro

I tried several other doubles and hated them all. I kept putting off this one because of the price, but in the end it is worth every single penny. Lightweight, small, kids love it, easy to drive, turns on a dime. Seriously, the thing is awesome. Sometimes you can find them on Craigslist for a discount, too.

I forgot to add, great in stores. It is no wider than a single and only a tad longer, but not really compared to those travel system singles.

I have the Joovy Caboose and it is like heaven! I love that you can put the carseat in or not, adn 3 yo dd does well siting/standing behind up. It folds alot smaller than my old single baby travel system, and it's light and easy to use. Plus the basket under is perfect for a small diaper bag, the sling and some shopping.

the only downfall? no cup holder. *sighs*

Popping in from "new posts" to give you my experiences with double strollers. I can't help you with any of the specific brands currently available because I used double strollers 9-11.5 years ago. I tried about 4 different strollers, and found that I liked the front-back style much better than the side-side models. It's much easier to fit through small store aisles and doors with a single-wide stroller. The front-back style also worked much better on bumpy pavement, curbs, etc.

I had been afraid that they'd fight over who got the front vs back seat, but it didnt' make a difference- they fought just as much over the right vs left seat in the side-side stroller.

If you take a lot of public transportation, though, your best bet would be a tiny umbrella stroller for the toddler while you wear the baby.

i've ruled out the phil & ted's b/c of its weight & price. also, ds1 is (hopefully) going to need the stroller less and less as he gets bigger.

i've settled on the lightweight joovy. seems like the best for us. i'll probably be wearing dd for a while - but since we do so much walking, i want something that suits all of us!

thanks for your input, everyone!

Joovy now sells a neoprene parents organizer that fits on the handle of the sit and stand and it has two cup holders, a regular pocket to hold stuff, and a zippered pocket. We've fit the big one liter bottles of water in the cup holders, so it works great! It comes included with the lightweight, but not the regular.
