Jamie Lynn Spears

I was wondering if any of your kids have said anything since all this business with her teenage pregnancy? I know a lot of preteens are really into her show so i was wondering. My DD (12) was never into it much though. I heard Nickolodean was tossing around the idea of a Nick special on safe sex or something like that. hmm... seems like a good way to strike up a dialogue anyways...

When the news first broke I asked my almost 10 year old son if anyone at school was saying anything about Jamie Lynn. He said no. 5 days later neighbor girl of the same age tells my ds and 7 year dd that Jamie Lynn is pregnant. That bullet I hoped I dodge landed. My children already know how babies come about (Thank you to the book It's so Amazing ) but we had not really talked about responsibility and premarital sex. So, I suppose I should thank Jamie Lynn for giving me that opening.

On a side note, my dd has decided that she does not want any children so whomever she marries will need to wear his pajamas.

Frankly I am sick of the whole thing. But I think it is a good opportunity to teach children a lesson if they are interested in it.

Both of my girls (very immature 10 y.o. and very worldy 6 y.o.) love Zoe 101 and wanted to know how Zoe was going to have a baby in the dorm at school. I explained yet again that her character was different than real life and that she may not be able to be on the show anymore because she would have to stay home and take care of her baby.

They were devastated by the prospect of no more Zoe. The 10 y.o. said she'd wait to have a baby when she's about 40, and the 6 y.o. said she'd be about 21 when she had one, and I quote her here- "when I'm too old for fun anyway".

That was the end of the conversation. If they want more we'll have more, but for now that's been it.

I did speak with my 19 y.o. and his serious gf about it though. I'm hoping they'll learn a lesson from it and either abstain or use condoms.

She hasn't said a thing, I don't think she even knows who she is.

All mine said was "I bet she (Jamie) wishes Brittany wasn't such a screw up, so people would leave HER alone".

Lets just hope Jamie can be a better Mother than her sister is.

BTW, I had NO idea Jamie Spears had a show on Nickelodian. This is the first I have heard of it.

I think that the show is more geared to younger than preteen...which is why my 8 year old loves it. She is grossed out that Jamie Lynn is pregnant. She keeps saying shouldn't older people do that. My 11 year old is not surprised there are two 6th graders pregnant in her school.

Wasn't a big deal for my kids really. Perhaps it's because they know all about teen pregnancy as I was a teen when I had both of them, and I have openly talked about that experience with them.

It's not a route I hope my kids go, and they agree at this point, but they wish her the best, and hope she does well with the pregnancy and motherhood. My 16 year old son is going to be an uncle this coming summer when his 18 year old half-sister has her first child. JLS is not the first teen, or even first famous teen, to get pregnant so the media hype is a bit silly IMO.

Barely a blip on the radar screen.

My boys don't know who she is. My oldest knew of her some years ago but could care less I'm sure. I think she's going to be as pathetic as her older sister and I feel sad for their whole family. Gee, what proud parents they must have. I mean they are actually a real family that lives somewhere in this country and has neighbors and relatives that know about all this crap in the media. ugh. sad.

My 10 yo dd asked about this. She has a hard time understanding all of it.

Why don't we wait a little while to make that judgement? No need to tar her with the same brush as Britney just because they're related-- at least give this girl a chance to prove you (and everybody) wrong. I'm not saying that she WILL-- but who knows? She might. Also, it's impossible to know what's happening inside someone else's head-- I'd call Britney more messed up/ unbalanced than pathetic.

Yeah, My 10yo thinks she is not bright for it but knows it happens. DD closest clousin is pregnant right now (just turned 18yo a few weeks ago and in the 11th grade) for the second time. The first time she was 16yo and told then 9yo DD first. Then had an abortion. She is so immature that she didn't comprehend that was alot for a 9/10yo to handle. Not all teens are THAT immature.

Actually, DD is bothered by the media attention on it most (she is a big Zoey101 fan) and is upset that they'd cancel a show just b/c she is pregnant and young. I then todl her teh Pee Wee Herman story (that was pure BS to cancel that show) and how judegemental people are via the media.

Also, many famous and non famous girls get pregnant-and noone ever knows.

Yeah, my friends were getting pregnant and miscarring or inducing miscarriage when I was a kid, around 6th grade.

I was still a virgin!
