Question for you Post-Partum Broken Crotch Club Mommas

How soon were you able to turn in your membership card?

I am in crying-my-eyes-out excrutiating pain from my Symphasis Pubis Dysfunction and I am *almost* to the point of asking for the midwives to start induction techniques *JUST* to go through the meaningful pain of labor and to have my pubic bone hurry up and heal. Oy! I am sooo at the end of my teather. Is there a light at the end of the tunnel-or am I delusional from pain?

Did you have relief from pain soon after baby was born, or did it take some time? days? weeks? still dealing with after effects?

Mine still hurts, she's 10 days old.

it took a while for me the first time. :/ i remember it re-occuring even a year after birth, when i did something like suddenly run across a street. ouch. :/ and it started MUCH earlier in this pregnancy than it did last time....

but it DOES mostly go away, it just takes time.

i'm reading this thread with great interest.

it took me 5 minutes to crawl into bed last night. it involved alot of yelping and crying. i'm so looking forward to having my broken crotch go away.

Mine was 90% better the minute the kiddo was born. I would say it is all better now at 10 days out. Yay! Hang in there, ladies (until next time, when I hear it gets worse...)

I'm starting to understand (just a tiny tiny bit.)
I got up the other night to pee around 3am, and had to hobble to the bathroom. I almost crawled.

So huge sympathy hugs your way.

my psd felt much better immediately after the birth. partly endorphins and all that, partly the lack of extra weight/pressure on the bone, part because I'm sure the additional stretching/shifting of my pelvis during the actual birth put things back into a better (closer to normal) position.

The pain did NOT completely go away, though. I still get random (painful!) twinges, and I pretty much expect that I'll have to move carefully for the first few steps every time I get up after sleeping/sitting for awhile. I had my first pp chiro adjustment on Wed. (6 days pp) and I was reeeeeeally needing it. because of the holiday schedule, I won't get to go back until next Wed.

It would be better for me if I could go 2x/week for a couple weeks, then go back to once weekly, but as long as I can keep with once weekly, I'll prolly be okay. I expect it will be at least a month before I feel totally better, but I'd say I'm already at prolly 80-85%, so that's pretty significant for 8 days post-partum!

I'm certain that the other 15-20% will come even more quickly once I feel up to doing some regular exercises, even just walking.

So, I'd say from my exp. that you should be able to expect fairly significant improvement immediately after birth, but be prepared for some twinges for a few weeks, until everything has had a real chance to settle back into place. My last pregnancy, I was not getting regular adjustments, and it did take longer to feel better after the birth. I really think the regular adjustments make a HUGE difference!

hang in there, Mama!

I've pretty much had the same experience as SheBear. I'm almost 3 weeks pp. Right away I started feeling better. I still get a little twinge here and there, but nothing like when I was pregnant. For me, it's mostly my hips causing pain, but rolling over in bed on days when I've overdone it reminds me that my crotch is still slightly broken.
