What can I cover Dd's mattress with-non-plastic?

DD is potty training. I do not want to cover her mattress with a plastic cover, but I do want to protect it. Any ideas?

a wool blanket

Are you against any type of man-made fibers? I did not want a large noisy plastic cover encasing my children's beds but as one was a bed-wetter, I finally found something that worked for me. Do a search for Priva bed pads. They are a saddle-style bed pad and work very well.

I wish I could figure out what kind we have. We got it when we bought our mattress, original price was $100 (for a king sized cover), but we got it for $50. Worth every penny and I wish I'd bought two. It has a waterproof but soft cotton layer. I don't know how to explain it, but it is kind of like a cloth diaper, with that lining on the inside, while still being soft. I love it! It has been a bedsaver!!!!

prettypixels - i think we have the same thing. i believe it's called 'protect-a-bed.' it is like a cloth diaper - it's got a cotton terry top layer with a PUL lower layer. DS peed in the bed a handful of times while he was transitioning out of dipes at night and there were no leaks onto the mattress. it doesn't make any noise and is easy to wash. but it does have the PUL.

otherwise the wool blanket or a lambswoool will probably be your best bet.

I threw a layer of PUL on the mattress followed by a big thick towel (kinda like a big diaper for the bed), then a nice soft wool blanket over the fitted sheet for even more protection. Works great!

All I use is some wool fabric, 1 yard. The mattress pad goes over it, the and sheet will absorb the puddle and the mattress will stay dry.

I remember when I used a vinyl cover. It was so uncomfortable! I never slept well. Even when it was under the mattress pad and many layers. And especially when we visited and humid climate!

Synthetic, but not exactly PLASTIC, and no harmful fumes: A thick polyfleece blanket. If you have one and you're not sure it's thick enough, spread it over something that can get wet, pour a glass of water on it, and come back in an hour.

Naturepedic.com has a "breathable" waterproof pad. I'm considering buying it.
