just fyi, dr. bill sears wrote the baby book.

the book about vaccines is written by his son, dr. bob sears.

congrats on your new little one!

Hi mama! It sounds like you've been through a lot already with your little one. I would take your time reading through the Sears book but then also cross reference what he's saying with other sources. I would encourage you to not use one source to make the decision about vaccinating. Good luck

I love the Dr. Sears book and yes, we are following his selective vaccination schedule. While Dr. Bill did write the baby book, the Sears collaborate on many of their books and in fact, Dr. Bill is much more pro-vax than Dr. Bob. Have you seen Dr. Bob's article in the new 'Mothering'? I just got it in the mail yesterday.

Dr. Bob's schedule is about 1) reducing mercury and 2) reducing aluminum. He goes through each VPD and each vaccine, breaks down the risks for you- the risks of the disease as well as the risks of the vaccine. It's a very balanced book and not propoganda, which is nice. He does have a couple of nit-picky flaws in the book, and he also doesn't go into serotype replacement, which is the reason we don't do Prevnar. Mostly he backs up his info with peer-reviewed research (make sure in any vax book you get you check for peer-reviewed research).

So, yes, we follow the Sears schedule. However, we don't do Hep A, Prevnar, Rotav., or CP. Do you have his schedule? I wouldn't mind sending it to you if you need it. He actually has two in the book- a selective schedule and then a super selective/delayed schedule.

ETA: You might want to request this be moved to the selective/delayed forum. That forum is a support forum, not a debate forum. You might get more responses there.

Since this discussion is about a S&D schedule I'm moving you over to that subforum. Also removing a couple of OT posts...

I would not personally be comfortable starting as early as his schedule starts. It's not very delayed.

If you are looking to delay, you may want to look at additional sources specifically regarding delaying pros/cons. For selective vaccinations, this is a good source. But it's just that. One source. I would caution any mother trying to make a decision regarding vaccination to read, research, and read some more. This is definately not a "one source" issue, by any means!!

Good luck!

He really gives a lot of options. When you read the book, you will see that there are slightly as well as very delayed options.

I think this book is a great place to start and generally, those who are in favor of selective and delayed vaccination agree. Those who are against all vaccinations usually disagree since the book is not entirely antivax. It really depends on your pov. If you read the book and find you want to know more, check out the archives in this forum.

just wanted to update to let you all know i HAVE been researching for months and months! This isn't just a 'well i guess i'll pick a book out of a hat and go with it' also i've been to his website and really agree with a lot of what he says when answereing people's questions about vax. To me it IS much more selective that my own ped wants (6 vax's at a time)

I am following his schedule. With my other 3 kids, I wasn't as educated on vaccines, so they are up to date. But I'm going to take my time with our baby.

Dr. Sears' and separating out MMR -- Any luck?

Hi mums. New to this forum and very excited to be a part.

Wondering if anyone has had luck getting the three separate doses for a delay on the MMR combo at 12 months? My doc seems for it, but he says he cannot get the M, M, or R right now and does not know when they will be available.

Thanks!

As I've mentioned in recent posts, I'm reading Stephanie Cave's vax book. She stated that as of 2002 the separated M, M, and R are unavailable, and it was uncertain as to whether or not this measure was temporary. I don't know what the situation looks like today, but it's likely that the option is still unavailable. :

They're available. I have heard of people getting them just within the last month. They probably will need to be ordered specially and by the case. But they are being made.

Dr. Bob's alternative schedule

I found a beautifully organized chart form of Dr. Bob's alternative vaccination schedule in the current issue (Dec/Jan 08) issue of Fit Pregnancy on sale at news-stands now. Very easy to read and copy to take to your pediatrician.

Also new member

I am really interested in Sears' book after reading the article in the new Mothering. It seems aluminum really is a big issue that has not been addressed by the medical establishment. Even the cdc and fda talk about the dangers of parenteral aluminum, but then just ignore the fact that it's in all these kids' vaccines!

One thing that would help me is to look up the ingredients in these things...I know there is a link to a website out there somewhere that tells what is in the vaccines besides the immunological part. Anyone have it?
