Maya wrap and sleeping with baby

DS is as content as can be right now in the hug hold in the Maya wrap. I really could use a nap right now-but I know if I take him out he'll scream bloody murder (he doesn't like to be messed with). I also love holding him in this thing! Is it safe to nap with baby against you in the maya wrap?

I don't even know why I am asking! I think we have broken every rule about safe sleeping this week! DS falls asleep on our chests-in the middle of the bed, refuses to sleep on his back etc..... However despite my family's narcolepsy-I am paranoid about SIDS. I think I check him about once an hour to make sure he's still breathing!

I don't know if it's considered safe but we did it. Also, maybe if you do, he'll slowly get used to laying down in bed next to you, which would maybe help him just sleep out of the MW next to you...some day. ; - ) I hope you get some sleep, mama.

I'm breaking the rules too. Every night!

Do you have a recliner, so you can nap without laying flat?

I'd pull any fabric away from his face so he's not re-breathing his exhaled breath. Otherwise, I think it's fine. Don't most babies sleep on their parents' chests for their first weeks? Mine did. I think if you're BF-ing and co-sleeping you are totally in tune with your baby & will wake up if anything is amiss. One of my girls was asleep in the co-sleeper, on her back and was struggling to breathe & I had her up, in my arms and the lights on before I could tell you with words what was wrong. I have no idea how I knew and what woke me up from a sound sleep. She wasn't coughing.

Obviously SIDS can still happen, but you also have to do what you have to do in the early days.

I hope you can all get some rest.

i agree abt keeping fabric away from his face - then it's like you're just holding him on your chest only hands-free. i have slept like that w/maya several times. my husband has fallen asleep w/her like that, reclined, in the moby wrap and they snoozed for hours.

Heh - I'm still sleeping every night in the recliner, so that was gonna be my suggestion, too And Olivia generally sleeps on my chest or falls asleep at the boob - as long as I'm not obstructing her airflow, I don't worry about where she sleeps.
