Spent another $61 in joint money at Target today, on...mailers, birthday cards, dishwasher detergent...it's ridiculous. This challenge has really opened my eyes as to what is happening with our joint spending (and why we're ending up in the red by the end of the month). So next month, I'm not only going to have a personal budget/personal goals, but M. and I are going to have a joint budget as well.

AND I spent at the thrift store and the post office...On the upside, I got $45 from Amazon.com today, selling stuff from the GW. So it's not all bad.

Okay, mamas, confession time. I crashed big time. I lost track of what I was spending money on, started charging on the credit card, went out to eat when we couldn't afford it (and put it on the card), and just generally have a knot in my stomach. Next month is a three-paycheck month for DH so we'll be okay, except for the amount that's on our credit card now. I don't know how we'll pay that off, except that DH will get a bonus in May and we will hopefully be getting that rebate from the government.

Ugh. I feel awful. We have no money in savings (aside from a few thousand that's earmarked for my stepdaughter and son) -- I feel like we're one major emergency away from disaster.

Amid all this I've been seeing some natural health practitioners in the hopes of regulating my cycle/getting super healthy so I can get pregnant. I don't want to give this up. So I need to STOP CHARGING STUFF, start shopping from our pantry, track every penny, and stay on top of spending.

I am coming back in February with a vengeance.

I am both amazed at how terrible we're doing and also how many times I've chosen not to buy something because I am trying to be more responsible.

I actually am working very hard on saving money on groceries (we usually spend around $1,000 a month). So although we will go about $1000 a month again, we should see a big difference by March because right now I am doing very well not buying things we don't need and instead I am stocking up on sale items in bulk. Plus we're paying a lot of game day groceries this month. So it's a false number below.

Feels good! Not that I WANT to spend money, but I know in the long run it's helping when I've paid $150 for an item that usually costs us $3.49 or bought and froze 3 tri tip steaks we love for 40% off.

Jan 17th no spend and another 25.00 for the dentist fund Dh is pulling out the money for gas , food and oil change out of the bank but none of it is being spent today .

Jan 19th Paid for Angel food for next month 30.00 and 20.00 for gas for dh car
Jan 20th ate out 17.00 and grocery shopping 27.00 oh 20 gas for van, and 5.00 for DH haircutt (coupon)

Jan 23rd already today ! I went and got 6 bottles of shampoo 5 things of deoterant , 2 boxes of tea bags , 2 things of rice , 2 things of hard taco shells for 16.00 . 37.00 at publix 10.00 on gas for van

The Home Stretch!

The weekend was pretty good. Saturday we went with DD, DH, MIL, SIL, BIL and my nephews to a free art & activity center sponsored by Hallmark Cards. We did go out to lunch afterward, but MIL paid. We did get the tip, though.

On Sunday, DD and I went to the zoo, because the temps were above freezing. We have a membership, and I pack an awesome lunch. Cheese, crackers, sausage and a couple tangelos. The cheese and sausage were even leftovers from other dinners. We sat in front of the tiger cage, eating our faux Lunchables.

I also watched one of my movies that I got free from a swapping site. However, now I'm paying postage to send it to someone else. I'm holding it until Feb, so it can go on that month's postage budget.

This morning I needed to get some snacks for a going-away party. I made some fruit dip with some items on hand, and am brought apples from home. But I need grapes and strawberries. However, my supervisor forgot her part, so she's just paying me $5 to "cosponsor" my snack. Ha! This is going to wind up being pretty cheap for me.
