HUGE BONUS! We just got a check from our mortgage escrow account--a bit over $1,000 we overpaid last year they returned, and our payment is going down $150/month starting March 1!

That makes the joint budget a lot easier. And the unexpected check is going straight to the savings account.

The rest of the month is going to be over budget. But, this month has been a good learning experience, and DH and I are VERY proud of the improvements we've made. We're looking forward to the February challenge to continue to refine and find other ways. We're okay with 5 days for the first time.

And, I haven't set foot in Target this year!

Ok yesterday was a major spend day. I bought dd2's birthday gifts and groceries, which were planned for but groceries (including household items) was more than I expected. Also bought a microwave to replace our 15 year old one, 2 clearance dresses for my DDs, and a bra. I had a gift card for about half those purchases, but still spent more than I went in planning on.

Today, however, was a no-spend. Only need one more day to meet my goal!

I'm taking all my money (all 9 of those dollars) and locking it in the filing cabinet today with my debit card.

Because the urge to get doughnuts has been OVERWHELMING this morning...and I have a list of things I "need" that is a mile long.

And one of the things is "winter sleepers in 9 month size"

Yes -- for a baby that isn't even here yet.

So the "need" for these items is dubious.

I'm just getting the spendy urge.

I need these next two days to be no-spend. That is what we truly need.

Fighting that spendy urge. Fighting it.

I'm fighting it with you Prudence. I will have had 3 no spend days in a row if I don't spend today. The satisfaction of accomplishing this keeps me going. I have no reason to leave the house today, so it will be easy for me. I may have fallen short on some of my goals, but this challenge has been good for me overall. I have not set foot in a Target store yet this month. I'm not going to have go today or tomorrow, so I'm inspired to continue this next month also. One day at a time. I didn't spend any money yesterday, so I can do the same thing today that I did yesterday. Keep fighting.

Your self-awareness is amazing, Pru. Just the fact that you are able to say "we don't really need these things, I just want to shop" is pretty great, you know? Progress.

Yes -- for a baby that isn't even here yet.

So the "need" for these items is dubious.

I'm just getting the spendy urge.

I need these next two days to be no-spend. That is what we truly need.

Fighting that spendy urge. Fighting it.

I admire your self control. And I want to commiserate with you! I really, really wanted to go out and pick up some lunch today after DS was done with speech and OT. But I really, really didn't want to come and add it to my list. So. We came home and had a perfectly nice lunch - food we already had in the house. And then! Then...DS told me he was tired and needed to rest. He volunteered to take a nap! This is my reward for not eating lunch out, yes?
