leaky breasts

my dd1 is due on feb 3

she called a bit ago concerned that her breasts are leaking....white

while I didn't leak with my pregnancies, I proceeded to tell her it was fine

especially since when she called and just asked "is it normal to be leaking already?" and my instant thought was amniotic fluid.....scared the crap out of me

so, is it fine? She's concerned that the baby won't have colostrum if she's leaking

any words from the wise?

I'm pregnant with my first and my boobs have been leaking clear, white, and yellow stuff since 19 weeks! Normal!

There is no relationship between our leakage during pregnancy and our milk production when the baby is born. We won't "run out" of colostrum or skip that part. Our bodies know what they're doing! We just get some extra juice early on, lucky us.

A great BFing book is The Nursing Mother's Companion - a great gift!

Agreed, totally normal! (I understand the concern though!)

Same happened here with DS's pregnancy. Some white leakage, but when he was born, we couldn't nurse for almost 36 hours due to respiratory distress and time in the NICU. so I had to pump, and it was completely colustrum for the first 30 hours or so.

Yep, normal! I leaked more with DD than I have this pregnancy.

thanks, mamas!

I'll let her know I double checked.....and especially about the colostrum still being there. She's obsessed about being a good nurser (not a bad thing!)

Hi Ediesmom

Noticed this thread in new posts and wondered would your dd1 like some breastfeeding books? I have some LLL books somewhere, maybe even a copy of The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding. Let me know and I'll check my bookshelves and send them to you.
