I saw that some of you can feel yours and feel if it is open and feel baby's head.

so how exactly do you check for it? what should it feel like? where should it be?
Can your dh find it?

I can't find mine, although I was checking cervical position pretty much every day for over a yar when I was TTC.

It's migrated WAY up there; I'm guessing from Carlito's Wife's thread that it should migrate back down again before the birth, but tbh, I'm concerned about the risk of infection and I couldn't care less about my boring old cervix when I can feel the HEAD!!!!!!!!!!

It's on the other side of my vaginal wall so there is absolutely no risk of contamination, and in the original post on the UC forum where I learned how to find it, the poster said it is always below your cervix. At 20 weeks it felt like a golf ball and at almost 34 weeks...well, it's the size ds's head was when he was BORN!!! It's very hard and feels like a bone because it is. My baby was sleepy the last time I checked and kind of groaned an, "Oh, MOM! Why do you have to bug me right NOW?" but the first time around, we had quite a bit of fun poking each other and getting poked back.

My cervix is very high and I can barely reach it. I have used NFP for a few years, both for TTA and TTC, so I am very familar with my cervix If you haven't checked yours pre-pregnancy you might not be able to recognize it now. Yours will probably either feel kind of firm like the tip of your nose or soft and squishy like your cheek. And of course there will be an opening in it. I usually check mine while sitting on the toliet using just my middle finger to gently poke around {wash your hands first.} Or sometimes standing up with one leg elevated {like in the shower.} I know some people say their DP's can feel their cervix, I just don't think mine wants to go poking around in there for that reason, lol!

As for the head, yep, just like NOS described! This baby's head is closer to the front side of my vagina and it seems like my cervix is tucked behind it.

I agree with the above -- if you haven't felt it before, now is probably not the time to go digging around looking for it. It took me some time to get the hang of checking mine when I was ttc. My policy is hands off right now!

I tried yesterday (and was going to ask the same question), mine is way up high so I just gave up...I can't feel the head either. I'm not sure what position the baby is in, I have a hard time figuring that out, guess I'll just ask the midwife at my next appt.

Question though, is it a lot lower during labour? Because how does the midwife check dilation?
