Breast feeding after reduction

So in my stubborness to breastfeed-I've decided to give BFAR a try. I had breast reduction surgery in 1990-and that apparently left me with very little milk. So I am pumping and giving my LO the little ounces that I pump. I am also trying (again) to nurse with a supplemental nursing system.

I figured out a way to pump hands free-so I jump on the net when I am pumping. However if my posts are short-it's because, I'm pumping.

Anyway that's what's up with me!

Go for it girl. Your perseverence is inspiring. I don't know if I would have it in me.

Pump away!

Karen, get the book Mother Food if you haven't already. It has great recipes and lists all the herbs you should be using with the proper dosage. I love that book.

Keep us updated on how it goes! How much are you able to pump? Every single drop counts!

I have a friend who nursed her baby after a breast reduction. She did have to supplement some until after the baby started solids but she is still nursing her daughter at 2yo. It can be done. I wish you the best with it. Oh, and she ate alot of oatmeal and oatmeal recipes to help with production. Keep up the good work!!

Thank you! I'm really trying to boost supply, I'm taking herbs and pumping like crazy. Of course DS doesn't want to latch-but we are working on that-at the very least he is getting formula spiked with breastmilk-I don't have much but I am finding that the more I pump the more I get.

I really appreciate the encouragement. I have quit so many times-and encouraging words really help me continue to try to latch my son and pump patiently.

And even if the latch continues to be an issue, the actual milk intake is SO GREAT!! I EP'd for quite some time with DS before we finally got our latch going right.

Good job, mama!

Are you taking Goat's Rue and alfalfa? Both are supposed to help grow glandular tissue.
