Kind of an odd question...

I am 4 months pp (after my second birth) and I was examining my perineum in the bath with my fingers. There seems to be a gap of muscle/or underlying tissue under the skin down and towards the left. Basically, I was checking to make sure everything was healed - checking for scar tissue, granulation tissue, and what not. I was gently pinching the skin to feel the thickness and I noticed that there is thick underlying tissue on both sides, but about a finger's breadth of very thin skin down and towards the left. Is this the normal structure, or did the underlying muscle or tissue split and not heal together? Is it muscle?

OK, sorry if this is a wierd TMI question!

Nevermind, I checked the area again this morning, and it seems to be OK. When I tense the muscles, it seems to go back up and the muscle appears to be intact. I'm not sure what I was feeling last night. : Sorry!

well I was going to say try tensing the muscle and see if it makes a bigger gap or if it fills the gap-- sounds like you may want to do some keegels
