Breast Friend

So we had some guests at our home the other night. All I knew is that the woman had 4 kids and the youngest was 2 months older than my son (my son just turned 1 year). And that only her, her husband, and this one son would be coming over for dinner.

I made a nice veggie dinner and when they arrived I saw that they were a straight laced religious couple with a pacifier in their baby's mouth. I though "oh no! They are going to have an issue with me nuring ds" I felt that I still had to be lactivist, so when we sat down to eat, I whipped out the breast for ds (who is barely eating any solids right now) and made a comment that I was going to move to another chair because the heater was blowing right on us.

I saw her watch for a moment to see if I was really going to nurse him and when she saw that I did and kept right on talking she took a pause and then say "well, I'll bet my son wants to nurse too!"

ANd then she nursed her son right there at the kitchen table!

awesome!

well, extended BF is encouraged in judaism...

no WAY!!!

ANd yep, the shulchan aruch recommends nursing till age 4 for a healthy child and age 5 for a sick child. The MIN amount of time for nursing is 2 years!

It's a beautiful and little known fact. So is this. According to the shulchan aruch, a wife's FIRST duty to her husband is nursing their children. All other domestic duties may fall by the wayside. NOTHING should interfere with her ability to nurse their babies.

woohoo!!!
I knew about the ebf, but this:
Quote:

is AWESOME!!! I'm totally gonna get the original quote in hebrew and have it printed on bumper stickers and t-shirts

it can go right along with the one about how women are not allowed to work until the hannukah candles have burned out.
