What are some names that you can't use? - Page 2

I have a lot of girl names I like, but that would mean actually having a GIRL. :

But one name my husband and I both love is Duncan...however with his last name it pretty much sounds like Dunkin Donuts, LOL. So that's out.

Oh, and I thought of another name I like... Celeste... but I was told it rhymes with "molest". And now I just can't get that out of my head!

With 3 kids, I already go through the rollcall, trying to get someone's attention.

"You can play outside, Joie...Cicely...Jude."

Ahhh, now THAT would be great!

We're having a heck of a time coming up with boy names that work in both of our languages (English/German). We really like Julian, which is a decent name in both, but here it is pronounced: Yulian...and I just don't think I could live with that. It would likely get confusing if I pronounce it different than everyone around him. So...not likely.

We also love Owen, but w's are pronounced like v's here. Oven, anyone?

At this point, I'm really starting to hope it's a girl.

We cant use Ethan which I really liked but dp's cousin named her little boy that.

We have a boys name set but girls name we cant decide

we really love zoe for a girl, but i feel like it's too used. then there's sophia (my grandma's middle name) which is also way too popular. and we've also bounced around the name paloma, which dh and i both love, but our last name starts with P, and i'm not sure about an alliteration name.

: We both really like the name Anya but with our last name it sounds like "On your mark!"

BIL and SIL were telling me about a girl who waitresses at their restaurant...her name is Shitana Rose Bush. Say it out loud. Poor girl, stupid parents!

Noooo! That poor, poor girl

For a boy I like my brother's name, Thomas, but with our last name that'd also be an alliteration and I wouldn't wish Tommy T________ on anyone, let alone my poor babba.

Thing is, I'd love to stick to family names but I don't like any of ours! The grandmas' names are Susan and Elizabeth, which would be shortened to Sue or Liz, and I'm not lumping any daughter of mine with a 'sensible, reliable girl who you can depend on' name. Grandpas' names are Keith (ick) and Robert (I don't like either Rob or Bob). So family names may have to be delegated to middle names. My own name's an anagram of both my grandmas' names, so can't use anything similar. Seriously, I've gone back both sides for a few generations and can't find a single thing either of us like so may have to scratch the family name idea altogether.

For a girl I brought up Willow and DH told me no it sounded too : for him

We haven't gotten too far, I figure it isn't worth a big fight before we know if it is a girl or a boy...

I like Echo, but I'm still trying to convince DBF. He said the same thing about it.

I thought of three others:
Indigo
Bridget
Henry

All were instant no's. I cried when he said no to Henry.

DH has vetoed Grayden and Elliot for a boy. He also vetoed Macie and Sierra for a girl (because there is a Chevy truck called a Sierra).

I thought of Raven for a girl the other day but my son's name is Rain so that would be weird.

In general I like names that are also nouns (like Rain, Sierra, Raven) but if we choose another name like that, we'll never live down the whole hippie thing. My family already thinks my son's name is totally out there (his middle name is Wild).

I'm totally set on using Sage for the middle name if it's a girl so we are also constrained by something that will sound good with that. (I thought Macie Sage would be great!).

For awhile I really liked Rose for a middle name. I now know three little girls with the middle name Rose, so it is out for sure.

I also have liked the name Nimai for a girl for years and years, but I named my son Kai, and I will not have kids with rhyming names.

I know there are more, but that is all I can think of for now.

Greyson (dh's cousin has a kid w that name)

Griffin (nephew's name)

Tyler (my best friend from high school's baby's name.)

Olivia (my sis has had this name picked out for a daughter for like 10 years)

Liam (had this picked for DC1, but she was a girl. )

Bridget (had this picked for DC2, but she was sooo blonde, we decided Gwendolyn instead upon seeing her)

This thread makes me laugh! Some of the names on my very favorites list for boys are:

Liam
Seamus
Hamish
Duncan
and also Nolan

But, DH says, no, no no on all of them. Especially Hamish--he can't get the image of the Hamish character from Braveheart out of his mind. We are having a really hard time with boys names and will probably end up with Patrick or Andrew.

For a girl, we have a name picked, so we are good. But, it is the name of a cousin by marriage that we don't see very often, so we have decided we don't care.

Spark--one of my daughter's best friends is Elinor. Not sure if the variation in spelling would make a difference for you.

Oooh, maybe so. Thanks!

I know the whole name numerology thing sounds a little corny... it's just, I have found it to be SO accurate. For instance, I had a boss once who's name was Mark. I was running numbers in the office with some of my coworkers. We were laughing at how right one each description was for each person. Then, we ran Mark's numbers. It was not like him at all. Mark finally walked into the room & this one guy said, "Without even being here, you proved Claire's name numerology is not 100% accurate!" Then, I said, "Hey, Mark, what's your REAL name?" He instantly said, "Christopher." We all really laughed then. We looked up "Christopher" and by golly, it fit him to the T!

Sooooo, yeah, I guess I'm corny. I just can't name my kid a name that would mean they'd be overly organized and very disciplined. I don't think I'd be a good mom for them!

Can you explain this a bit? I know nothing about it!

I have had the worst time finding boy names for this one, the only name I have found so far that I even remotely like is Aiden - but DH vetoed it as he hates it now I just cannot come up with anything....

For a girl I like Ryley, but DH says that we already have too many y's and it will sound like we are giving the kids matching names - my 2 boys are Dylan and Ryan
